For the record I don't play from the tips. I play from the blues usually. On occaision I'll play from the blacks but not often. I don't know if it makes much difference in Utah since everone can blast from the tee box. I'm just not good enough to play from the black tees, so I don't. I'm working on playing from the tips.

Just depends on the group I’m with. My home course isn’t crazy long though.

I appreciate that you think I'm running some sort of marketing operation here. Thanks, but no. The subject just came to mind and I posted.

I’d prefer to play from the tips, but my playing partners don’t so I don’t. If I’m blasting my driver I feel sort of guilty having a wedge into every hole.

If I’m not blasting my driver tho I guess my opinion could change.

I shoot the same score from the tips or regular tees. I have plenty of length and my bad scores are from absolutely terrible shots.

If I play the regular tees I almost never have more than wedge in.

Tips from Oakbourne, sure

At Koasati, hell no. Keep it under 6800, I'm technically a senior and not a long hitter

I just play whatever the rest of the group wants. End up hitting hybrid on the box more when playing up tees so I feel like it kind of evens out anyway. If I’m playing with solid players that want to play all the way back let’s do it.

Used to when I was younger and played some competitive golf. Not anymore, I’m older and play golf strictly to relax and hang with friends or my son. I’m not adding stress or pressure by playing the tips anymore.

I’m not making a living at the game and I don’t hit the ball far enough to enjoy more than 6400.

I prefer 6000-6250.

At the end of the day, players should mix their tees to use all their clubs and hit all 9 “windows.”

My group varies in age and ability. The bigger hitters actually prefer the blues because of angles and hazards. When they play up, boundaries, creeks Come into play. Granted if they hit it well, wedge after wedge.

Generally play whatever the group I'm with wants to do. That's rarely the tips, and rarely do I want to play the tips unless it's a shorter course.

Tips is a relative term. Total yardage is something we can talk about

I choose by yardage not “color” of the tees. I’ll play up to about 6600 if the group wants but usually stay under 6400. Even though I’m 60 I don’t play the senior tees unless they are 6300 or so.

I play from the tees closest to my comfortable length, which is 6700-6800.

Correct. PGA and USGA set out good guidelines in 2011 that you essentially correspond the tee box choice with your average consistent driver distance. Every course has different color tees, different yardages for tee boxes, different number of tee offerings, and those tee boxes also have a slope and rating. Here is the chart they recommend using. Keep in mind that a course is generally designed for these ballpark yardages in how it is supposed to be played from tee to green

I hit driver around 290, but not playing 7000+ because of inconsistency. It goes everywhere. Usually playing courses around 6200 - 6800. I go by slope and rating moreso. I'm playing the tees where the slope isn't above 135 usually.
