This is an interesting issue, that I think goes back to the chicken/egg dilemma. Phil wouldn't have made 600 million with out the PGA tour: the history, the organized competition, the marketing. That being said: Phil was a major presence and revenue for the tour. Does Phil's agent get proceeds from all his "booked" events? ( I don't know but I would imagine he/she did get part of the 9 million he received for Tiger vs Phil) I personally would think that there is some benefit due to the tour for PGA stars playing golf for being recognized to be in an made for TV event. Phil's phireside chats, what ever he can monetize off those ( which are great) is solely Phil's dollars... In my opinion
sounds so similar to NIL

More from Alan Shupnick:
“More context on today's PGA Tour meeting: it's not for the whole membership, just select top players. Tiger helped organize it; he held a similar skull session at Adare Manor. He's now acting as a de facto commissioner. It is unknown if he's getting guidance from the real Commish”

I think it is the top 20 and a few others is what I heard Streelman say.

The PGA does promote pro golf as a sport, it is not designed to just promote golf. It is designed to make money and does a damn good job at it. Taxpayers should not have to subsidize billion-dollar leagues or their millionaire players.
The non profit status of the PGA Tour is definitely a strange thing. But the income taxes on the net operating income of $50 MM a year or whatever it is wouldn’t back that much of a return for the government.

The net operating income wouldn't be $50 MM if they didn't give a bunch of money to charities

The PGA guys ought to be high fiving the LIV players. It's the LIV that forced that hypocritical dope, Monahan, to all of the sudden cough up money.
They should look at the LIV players the same way the NFL players should have viewed Joe Namath and the AFL. Competition forced the NFL owners to loosen up the wallet.
The PGA players are not strategic thinkers at all if they don't look at the LIV as a gift horse.

Sounds like Tiger brought Rickie with him.

I'll ask you the same question I have been asking Mingo. Where was the tour putting this money that they "all of a sudden coughed up"? Before they coughed it up? Or do you believe audited books are worthless? Or is it new money... From a new TV deal?

You get it where LIV will never receive owgr points, therefore no way to play in a major and try to get manufacturing companies to pull all sponsorships and that does something.
Phil's antitrust attorneys just went from six to midnight.

It was a third, a third and a third, Tv deal, reserves and sponsors according to the NLU guys.

I think that's the question the PGA players need to be asking Jay. Painting the LIV guys as the villain here is extremely short-sighted and not very bright. They should be stringing Jay up by his thumbs and beating him with 5-irons for hiding tens of millions from them all these years.

I really don't think the PGA Tour was hiding all of this money that LIV supporters are claiming. As with any large agency, I'm sure there is some waste, but not enough to even come close to what LIV is offering.

If the PGA Tour tried to even come close to matching what LIV is offering, they would probably be out of business in under five years. What LIV is offering isn't sustainable from a business standpoint.

I agree, the gifthorse is for the older players that aren't as competitive anymore that went to LIV. I don't blame them one bit. Only thing keeping some of the younger players is if LIV players aren't allowed to play majors or accumulate OWGR points. If they get those things, the PGA will be a ghost town.

[quote]Why boycott the majors what did they do?[/quote
3 of the majors are independent to the PGA. Ironically like LIV. These 3 Majors can invite whomever they want. The PGA does not want them to invite LIV Tour guys.
So to answer the question PGA is going to play hard ball.

Don't think it is any big secret that the Saudis #1 goal is sportswashing. ROI on investment is probably something they don't care a ton about as long as they achieve their goal of improving their country's reputation.
They are throwing around money in the world of golf that has never been seen before by 10 fold without any sponsors or media deals.

Correct.
So why do you think it's not sustainable for the Saudi's to continue to operate it?
