Bottom line is, The PGA Tour is owned by the player's. They will make the final decisions moving forward.
If this is the case, the meeting today is bad for the tour’s anti trust argument.

To be honest, I'm not sure about the bad blood btn Norman and the PGA. All I know is Norman tried getting another tour or something going outside the PGA. I really don't know what happened back then or what motivated him to "stick it" to the PGA. Honest answer too lazy to research. Anybody have a quick outline what happened with Norman/PGA?
The WGC's were his idea because he wanted to bring the best players to Australia. They were meant to be exactly that, World Golf Championships. Not no cut events in Akron Ohio. The Tour stole the idea from him.
He was right to be pissed about it, but there's no doubt, the man can hold a grudge

If they lose that tax exempt status, wouldn’t that just result in less money to pay out to the players?
Not necessarily. Much like the NFL did when they gave up tax exempt status. They gave all profits to the teams. Owners took on the tax bill. Players would do the same thing.

Norman tried to create what inevitably became the WGC

Not play in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida and sell sponsorships for the teams
The absolute best golf course for fans.
Where people come from all over the world to see that event, and has no local competiton from...MLB NBA NHL or soccer
I saw an article about Adidas having an interest in possibly buying a team. That's interesting... The team ownership aspect but that also brings in performance evaluations. Owners will also require a return on their investment - then is the LIV in player unions like MLB NBA etc when the owner's share "is too much when players make the product".
I just don't see how the business model works in an environment where the PGA tour DP aren't going away ( competition for players and for sponsors). Where cost per viewer is more ( 3 days vs 4), your half viewership is going to have to watch on delayed status and all golf dollars will be diluted ( unless LIV transcends golf and approaches NFL NBA or soccer levels of interest)

Are they going to do drafts for the team? That would be kinda cool.

You asked about money, not spectator experience. It's a big world out there. You need to make a coherent thought, not ping pong back and forth like a 13 year old girl

I’m pretty sure that is the ultimate goal. Have like 6 or 8 player teams and only play 3 players each event. The numbers can change but to have a team just like other leagues. The model is super attractive to young players coming out because, once drafted, they would get paid to be on that team as opposed as paying their own way to try to make a living.
Basically team owners pay all expenses for their team while selling sponsorships and sharing revenue with other owners. Just like all other sports. It not sure it can work but it’s pretty intriguing.

I’m mean…shite.
If there are two people in the car, Tiger should never be the driver!

He is gonna fly in on his G5 then get in a Nissan with cigarette burn in the cloth seats.

At minimum they should’ve sent the Infiniti QX80

Definitely shouldn’t have let that motherfricker drive though

Never. Who knows what was in that water bottle?

Also, back in the 80s when Norman was #1 he had offers to play in Asia for $500k appearance fees. PGA wouldn’t let he play in those.

I'm taking about money. That course is designed to bring people in ($) and give them a great golf experience. That course has instant world wide recognition as well as the event. The fact that you used that event shows you have absolutely no clue what you are posting about.

So why do you think it's not sustainable for the Saudi's to continue to operate it?
Because once they wipe out the PGA Tour why would they? Golfers would have nowhere else to go. Now the Saudis literally would OWN their asses.

How would they generate more advertising dollars than the Players
Not play in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida and sell sponsorships for the teams.
You specifically started that event.. as if LIV can do better than lil ol Ponte Vedra, To a question about how LIV world survive without daddy Saudi ...and you chose an event that already annually has 40 of the top 50 player.(90ish of top 100) Has world wide recognition and the top on site capacity? Good good luck to LIV then getting more non Saudi money out of a lesser field in lesser location
And the fact that you think the Saudis are in this fit a profit...please

TPC Sawgrass is great and I love The Players but it can most certainly be “re-created”.
Build a stadium course out side Tokyo, Seoul or Melbourne and play a ‘major’ there yearly and the place would go nuts.
