They're probably pissed about being sued last week.

Yeah I know so why the ad hoc meeting on a random Tuesday?

I’m guessing the players are thinking the majors will be forced to pick between pga players and LIV players. Majors would def side with the pga at that point and would really cripple liv’s chances at attracting other and younger players
This would be kind of awesome and is an avenue I have not thought about yet. Hope it happens.

They are against a MASSIVE favorite here.
This would be like Alabama joining the Southern Conference by force.
Would it be out of character for the conference to hold a meeting to figure out if that’s good or not?
Random Tuesday? You evoking that is a logical fallacy in itself.

Of course it would probably be a disaster for the tour as a ton of eager guys would just leave the PGA Tour and hate the boycott.
I can see that happening anyway, as we speak. Cam Smith and Marc Leishman have probably got their bags packed. I still think Cam Young rumors have a lot of merits. We have guys on the PGA that have voiced interest either in what LIV is offering or are not happy with the PGA product.
Patrick Cantlay puts me in mind as one of those guys, and so does Adam Scott. Hideki has long been speculated as a guy waiting for the season to end. And who knows who else is thinking about the big jump?
I think Tiger has been summoned just because of the continued level of discontent and noise about big brand names exiting out. Meanwhile, Alfalfa still can't figure out if LIV is good for golf and should work together or not.

My opinion on Tiger being summoned is he’s looked at as someone like a players union president. When he speaks the other players are going to listen and he can keep things moving.

ESPN
According to this ESPN article, it sounds like Tiger is trying to rally the troops to not go to LIV and stay with the PGA tour. Tiger is so pro-PGA tour that I would believe the ESPN article and not the reports that they're going to boycott majors, tournaments, etc.

I appreciate Tiger‘s passion but he’s got to be careful when talking to these guys about legacy over the guaranteed money at LIV.
Choosing legacy and tradition over money is pretty easy for a guy who’s already a billionaire. If he doesn’t approach it in the right way he could come off as out of touch and preachy

The fact that he only is speaking to the top 20 players and a couple more is interesting. I mentioned the level of discontent has to still be strong in the locker room.
If Tiger wants to know what it's going to take to keep the big boys down on the plantation, it's money and lots of it. He may want to discuss special appearance fees as well. Pay these top guys for all the appearances they make with the Pro-ams they have to play and appearances they make. Even the DP tour does that for its players. If Tiger, the billionaire, is there to just talk about tradition and loyalty and not being corrupted by money in your noble quest for trophies, I think he will leave the top golfers wanting.
Here's something the PGA could do for the top players and Phil hit it hard last winter. Phil said:
"The players don’t have access to their own media rights. They would rather throw $25 million here and $40 million there than give back the roughly $20 billion in digital assets they control. Or give up access to the $50-plus million they make every year on their own media channel."
Phil went on to say, "when I did ‘The Match’ — there have been five of them — the tour forced me to pay them $1 million each time. For my own media rights. That type of greed is, to me, beyond obnoxious. If you want to use a photo of a PGA Tour player for commercial purposes, well, the PGA Tour controls that image, not the player. So the tour has to be paid for use of the image."
Hey guys, even college football players are making 100s of thousands of dollars controlling their own NIL rights. Just not PGA players.
And hey, one more thing Tiger, why do I still have to pay Jay Monahan 50 bucks every tourney for my locker? How cheesy and cheap is that dude?

Would also be a little hypocritical because there was speculation in the mid/late 90s he was going to get his sponsors to create a new high purse tour because the purses weren’t high enough yet.

Shipnuck puts the worst case scenario in his post to get clicks and views. Guy is truly one of the worst.

I don’t think it matters much what a person who had to sign two large contracts to pay gambling debts says about money.

So you are incapable of understanding how to get money to these top golfers without them having to win the US Open?
If Tiger takes that business approach it will be a short meeting and guys will keep doing what they got to do.

They all of a sudden aren't happy with the PGA now that they can get 10X the money from LIV.

They have. They started the PiP and are adding events with higher purses. People think the Pgatour is generating billions and not paying out. That’s false.

Hasn't this already been shot down as being ludicrously incorrect?

Another thing Phil got wrong. The media company that put on the event paid the money for Phil so he could gamble more.

The PGA players do make a lot of money off of sponsorships.

I agree it probably isn't needed, but it also isn't even worth an argument.

No laying up did a podcast with Max Homa and they got into this. Based on the podcast your are correct. They talked about the new media deal, tour reserves and upcoming events that haven't even been sold yet to get more money to the players. It is a really good podcast if anyone is interested.

Then why is Tiger meeting with top golfers today? And Jay Monahan tomorrow is holding another midnight vigilance for the players. Maybe they just want to say hi?
Or maybe it is about the money. Imagine that?
