I’m a DOG at a high end club in AZ. I played pro and was a D1 player… I am the fastest player I know outside of a couple of my boys I gamble with who are 12’s and play in 3 hours.

A couple of my assistant pros are admittedly slow. I always ask why… they are average players… 0-3 hdcp but not playing for anything outside our bets…. They tell me that they want to play their best every time to try and impress either myself or someone else in the group.

These guys are good players…. But can’t break 70…. And likely will shoot 75-82

I do not get the grinding approach to golf? Never have. Either you know what you want to do on any given shot…. Or you don’t. But if you don’t…. What does sittting there for 60 seconds and analyzing everything do for you? When you are in fact just an average player? What are you scrutinizing for?

All amateur players should never spend longer than 3.5 hours on a course…. The LPGA taking 6 hours to hit their drivers 240 and then their 7iron 150 is a joke.

Slow play is the biggest shite stain on golf I can think of

If I don’t have anyone slowing me down, I can get 18 done in 2 hours no problem.

I know my yardages, generally are in the fairway or close, on the green or close and I don’t dawdle over putts.

A bad golfer (20 hdcp plus) can play fast golf

What I notice in my career is the players between 3-15 are the slowest people. They are so consumed with breaking 80 or 75 of 85 that they literally practice 20 hours a week and then play 5 hour rounds. Makes no sense to me.

What makes less sense is the majors…. Playing as 2-somes in round 4

And playing over 4 hours!?

Those rounds should be 3 hours max as 2-somes

We play fast, but it seems like the slowest group is always in front of you and the fastest group is always behind you.

I do like to clean the mud off my ball, look at putts, try to gauge chips, so I guess there are times when I’m a bit slow.

After work, we play ultra fast- especially after time change in November. Just trying to make par or better, pick up and get to next tee. Usually only 3 of us max so it’s quick. If you don’t have a putt for a skin, we go.

If anything I play too fast. I never take practice swings.

I get my yardage, setup, pull the trigger. When I belong to a club, 3 hours , 15 minutes was the norm for my foursome.

Also, most people I know that played college golf recently are the slowest golfers I know. College golf has gotten egregiously slow.

I am really slow but not because of taking my time to hit. With my back me and my 77 year old dad will play a hole and rest a few mins. If anyone is behind us obviously we wave them through. The course we play is a nice little 9 hole course and generally isn't very crowded so we can take our time. Usually 3-4 hours to play 9 and that's all my back can stand. As far as time to make a shot, I drive up to the ball, get a yardage, pick my club, 2 or so practice swings and hit. Same on the greens.

I play fast. No practice swings ever. Pick my line and hit the ball. I play terrible when paired with someone slow. Though oftern when done I rehash my round in my head and think if I would’ve taken more time to read a putt or maybe see where to miss it could’ve saved me 3-4 shots a round.

It takes awhile for me to look for the balls I shoot out of bounds. Those Kirklands aren’t cheap.

Same for me. I have to make an effort to slow down a little bit and it helps my game.

I’m just an impatient person and I can not stand slow play so I get my yardage, wipe my grip and rip it.

The thing that irks me is people that wait until it is their turn to start their routine. I see it all the time. A group in the fairway and they are waiting for the first guy to hit then once he hits they then get their glove, club, yardage and spend a couple minutes on their shot. Repeat for the other 2 guys.

I hate slow play. My usual foursome can play in 3 hours if nobody is holding us up. We putt everything out. And never feel in a rush. One of the guys is lucky to break 90 and constantly loses balls. You can be bad and still play with decent pace.

I get that golf is an occasional experience for some and they want to spend as much time on the course as possible, but a lot of us play multiple times a week and don't want to be out there for 5 hours.

There should be a happy medium somewhere but 4.5+ hour rounds are absolute bullshite.

Be ready to play when it's your turn. If someone in your group is struggling, play out of order if you have to. Don't plumb bob your third putt.
You hit your drive 215 yards...stop waiting for the green to clear on a par 5... because you ain't getting there, champ.

Ball retrievers should be banned.

There should be a required class on how and when to let people play through.

I don’t necessarily understand them either, but my guess would be it’s in part due to sounding arrogant about golfers who shoot in the high 70s-low 80s, and then being a little over the top in terms of time.

Slow pace of play frustrates me so much, but I don’t think 4 hours is unreasonable with people walking on the weekend.

It's bad and its trickling down to high school too. Watching a kid take 2-3 minutes to line up a putt and use that stupid line on his ball like Bryson is annoying.

I also play fast. Guys I play with play slow and it kills me sometimes. I mean like sit in the cart, have to check yardages twice or more. One time the 3 guys I was playing with had the same yardages and each had to pull out their own rangefinder and argued when one of them was 1 yard off. Takes forever to putt, etc. I learned long time ago I can take 10 minutes or 10 seconds to hit a bad shot so I go with the 10 seconds.

What kills me is you have 2 guys in a cart.

One hits it way left and the other hits it way right and they just sit in the cart and wait on each other to hit.

Drive to the shorter ball, player 1 pick a couple of clubs and your rangefinder and let the other guy drive over to his ball and get ready to hit.

If you can't walk 20 yards up the fairway, to rejoin the cart, what are you doing out there in 95 degree heat to begin with ?

Although I agree that slow play is annoying…

I’m downvoting you because you’re coming off as a huge dick. God forbid people practice and try and shoot their best score, the horror.

Also I bet all of you claiming to be “super fast golfers” aren’t as fast as you think.

If you are in a group of 4 and you are playing in 4 hours or less, you are maintaining pace and are perfectly fine.

People who try and race around the course to finish in 2hrs, constantly trying to play through back to back to back foursomes and glaring at you when you take 10 seconds to line up your putt are worse than people who play slow.

Play 4-5 times a week, 9 after work, 18 on weekends, walking. Walk 9 in under 2 hours, usually 1:45 to 1:50, walk 18 in under 4 hours, usually around 3:45. Riding a cart would cut those times down by at least 15 minutes per 9.

18 holes in 2 hours though, really? Congrats on playing speed golf, I guess, but what's the rush?

People who play speed golf and push, push, push groups that are keeping a standard pace of play of 2 hours/9 holes or 4 hours/18 holes are just as big of scourge on the course as slow players that take 5-hour rounds. Golf is a recreation to be enjoyed too. It's not enjoyable when people are breathing down your back when you are keeping pace with the group in front of you, and the group in front of them, and so on, and there really is nowhere to go.
