If I had a dollar from every golfer that said he could hit 300 yard drives, I could buy a new set of Muria's every year.
Take things said on here with a grain of salt.
Like Harvey Penik said, the woods are full of 300 yard drives.

My recommendation would be to just hit 3 wood off the tee instead of playing old man golf. Work on the driver as often as possible until its a bit more consistent.

My feelings ain’t hurt.
So I tried golf sidekick/old man golf on two holes yesterday. Went 5W off tee on a short par 4. Made a bogey. Next hole was an even shorter par 4 and I went 7i, 7i, 8i chip, par putt for par.

Thanks. My driver was once again consistent yesterday. Didn’t go OB at all. Still landed around 260-280.
It’s the rest of the shots that were hard haha.
I didn’t try OMG with driver this time. Maybe next.

It makes for interesting youtube videos but you are almost always better off just learning how to hit driver better. 250+ yards anywhere thats not OB is almost always a better approach shot than 200 yards in the middle of the fairway. Even if you are playing for 200 yards and straight, you still won't hit 100% of the fairways so now you're just a mile back and in the rough.
Smart golf is stuff like taking into consideration the shape of greens and pin placements when aiming approach shots. Purposefully hitting short because you dont know how to use every tool in your bag is just cope, not being smart.

I cannot comprehend how you drive the ball 260-280 which would leave you at most a 9 iron on a 6500 yard course and you barely break 100. In some case you're talking about a flip wedge. If you are driving the ball 280 you must have some sort of athletic ability.

I know people who flat out cannot hit an iron to save their lives, either hitting the hozzle, taking a foot of turf with them, hitting worm burners, etc. And with how forgiving drivers are now, you can get away with a lot of flaws in your swing. However, as with everything on this board, I'd take that 260-280 estimation with a grain of salt.

Yes, I am pretty athletic.
I top a lot of balls and sometimes get them fat with irons. I sometimes slice the ever loving shite out of balls. My slice is so bad I swear to ya the ball curls back at me like a boomerang. I can't chip and putt for shite generally. I often frequently go OB with driver off the tee.

I don't mind your doubt and definitely have a flawed swing. I think I come down too much over the top.
This is why I'm interested in old man golf because I'm tired of shooting 112 with 5 OBs. frick that shite.

At the end of the day, someone that is shooting 100 is going to have problems keeping the ball in play with many clubs. If its OB right and you are slicing your driver, in theory it makes sense to not hit it. But that assumes you have a reliable club that will go straight. What I most often see bad players do is they try to play it smart and not hit driver but bc they are bad, they chunk a 5iron 30 yards or slice one off the face of the earth to the right anyway.
Old man golf works (for old men) bc most of these dudes were pretty good at golf and understand how to properly swing it. They don't have the speed anymore but have the fundamentals and can poke one 150 and let it run another 50 yards. If you don't have the fundamentals, this is not going to work for you.
Golf sidekick is a great golfer, his how to break videos only make sense when you are also a good golfer. I can tell a 100 guy to only hit 3 wood and swing 8iron 50% but he is still going to have many of the same issues he has when swinging full

I watch alot of his videos. Alot of you make good points, but are leaving one key component out of his breaking 100 series. PLAY THE TEES THAT ARE APPROPRIATE TO YOUR GAME.
To the guy diving the ball 280 that can't break 100. I was you. Hell, I still am. I can poke a driver 300+, but maybe 20% go where I want. I'm currently not using that club on course until I can put it remotely where I want 8/10 times.
Also, playing smart doesn't mean don't be aggressive. Sometimes the aggressive play is the smarter play. Know your game and build up. If you can't hit a 150 club (any club) 150 yards straight 9/10 times, you probably need a lesson. Whatever club you can hit above that and straight 8 or 9 times out 10, use that off the tee.
Played my first 9 holes in 4 years this morning with golf side kick mentality from the blue tees (not black). 5 iron off the tees, took hazards and short side chips out of the picture. Shot 44. And that's not practicing short game or putting in 4 years.
Leave your ego at home, play the course.

I play old man golf and I'm 36, hit my drives around 220-230 (I can hit it further but gets a bit squirelly), but hit almost every fairway and I'm a great player with my woods.
I regularly shoot 75-82 but I don't lose balls OB and I putt well.
I had a particularly good day a few weeks ago and shot 73. It looks boring on the outside but man its fun when it clicks.
