4 and 5 somes. Beaver creek edition.

Why? Why do they let 5 somes go out and why doesn’t anyone let you pass them if you’re single?
Was behind a 5 some (only 4 some on the front. Became 5 one the back. Shrug emoji). Who took approx 15-20 mins a hole and wouldn’t let me pass. “There are groups in front of us.” Which was true but eventually even that group left them behind.
Is there not a situation where golfers could just let the faster singles through. I guess my question is, who does that disrupt? They’d wait an extra 5 mins max for me to be out of their hair.
Willing to admit I’m wrong here; honestly curious.
And if nothing else, should they just close the course when it’s packed and not let in 5 somes?
Worried about BR golf. Playing some of my best ever but growing frustrated waiting ten mins to tee. Ten mins for approach, then pulling up to next tee where the current group is just sitting there.

Tbh I get more annoyed with singles filling up the course than a 5some I see once in a blue moon.
If I was in that 5 I’d prob let you play through but be pissed about it. A single has no right to play though on the weekend imo.

Most places I’ve been, a single has no standing on the golf course.
Courses are crowded.
We used to put a ball in a slot and your tee time was when your ball came up. If you were three, starter put a single with you. If you were two, you played with 2 others.
Saturdays were always the busiest days even 40 years ago.

My group would let you through, but as a single playing on the weekend you’re not going to get a lot of sympathy.
I don’t blame you either fwiw, but the course should have paired you in a group. I know TPC LA will very rarely put a single on the course on a Saturday/ Sunday morning. Almost guaranteed to fill out a 4some.

Typically singles have no "standing" on a course to be allowed through groups of 3-5. Messes up the flow with a few singles out on a course

Up north you almost always get paired with others to make larger groups.
Not sure why the south cant figure that out. Another issue though is the reservation of tee times for 4 and 1 person shows up.
As for as BC goes, there is a notorious group of walkers that play a 5some every weekend at about a 5hr pace and screw the course up the rest of the day

If they were keeping up with the group in front of them they absolutely should not someone play through especially on the weekend. You have nowhere to go and will cause a backup to everyone to let a single play through.

I’m always down to be paired with someone. And as far as pace of play, at each tee box i waited for this group, other groups would pile up behind me.
So for example, i ride up to hole 11. They are still teeing off (or chit chatting on the tee box). While waiting, the group behind me pulls up. We all just wait for them to go.

If you want to play as a single and book it. Best option is to call the clubhouse and ask them to put you on the earliest tee time. They will usually work with you on that because it helps them. If you don't want to get up that early then you just have to eat it as its going to be a long day for you.
Other option is to walk. Get good exercise, don't need to play as quick and enjoy your day.

You probably should’ve just played with the group behind you.

I agree with this. You won't play any faster, but it will feel like it flowed better since you will have less time sitting around. Also, you'll have finished and walked 3-4 miles and feel good about yourself.

Could you not have paired up with others? Actually shame on the course/starter for sending out a single esp on the weekend if the course is crowded.
You should be forced to pair up. They let you play through and you catch that next 4some within one hole most likely and are back to square one. Also, if the course is fairly crowded it slows things down even more waiting on people to play through.

No standing on the weekend. Also I play in a game with 40+ folks and occasionally we have an odd number at the end of the tee sheet so we'll go out with 5 instead of a 2 some and three some as we've found the 5 some is faster especially with competent golfers.

As long as they can keep up pace it's not that huge of an issue.. I have a regular group I play with on Sundays and every once in a while we'll have a extra.. That said we're all competent and quick golfers and almost always keep it at 4 hours and under.. We're typically the 2nd tee time out in the mornings as well so that also helps..

Typically during the week they should.. Hell I played by myself Friday afternoon and was held up by a 5 some that graciously let me go around and explained that they were being help up by a 3 some in front of them.. I skipped both of them.. The 3 some was perturbed that I jumped in front but I could care less because both tee boxes in front of them were open.. I will skip you on my home course and will proceed to out pace a group by a long long margin...
Slow Play has been the biggest bane on courses.. Hell my 4 some yesterday was held up by a 2 some and I was about ready to loose my shite and this Dingus and his GF.. Like great glad yall spending time together and playing golf.. But teach your lady to play quickly.. ( not that he was any faster) It took the fricking arse hats almost 2 1/2 hours to play 9 holes.. Glad they jetted after 9

A 5 some is ridiculous but a single has no standing on the course.

I used to get irrationally angry about fivesomes, but, when you break it down, they are more efficient than playing a 4 and a 1 or a 3 and a 2. Ideally, it's just a bunch of foursomes (and sometimes threesomes) on the course. However, if that isn't possible, it's better to attach that person to a foursome. You are adding an open spot on the course by removing the single, and, if the large group is efficient, there can be a lot of shots played close to the same time.

Just go ahead and pass them. You don’t need an invitation.
