I know I'm a dick, but you get a few save files overwritten and see how it alters your opinion.
ETA: And having to be online to play games sounds stupid as well. What if a storm comes through and knocks out the connection for a little while? Can't access my games? frick that.

I know my opinion is likely biased and will be seen as harsh, but here are my thoughts. this isn't directed at anyone in particular.
- if you can't afford internet, stop being poor, stop spending money on video games.
- if you have a shitty internet connection, stop being poor, upgrade your connection.
- if you can't afford to buy anything but used games, stop being poor, stop spending money on video games.
- if you can afford a $500+ video game console, why can't you afford $30-50 a month for good internet service?
- if you can afford a $500+ video game console, why can't you afford $60 for a brand new video game?
if you can't afford these things, you shouldn't be wasting what money you do have on them in the first place.
things like this is why poor people stay poor. i understand there are exceptions to kids and broke arse college students.

Yes and no. If you can't afford the cheap, don't splurge on the expensive. But other factors are involved, like living in an area that only offers DLS or dial-up.
I know. Stop being poor and move.

Agreed. Take broke for example, biggest OT Baller I IRL know. Lives damn near in the sticks in his ballin arse mansion.
shite internet. nothing he can do about it.
but as time progresses, this is becoming less and less of an excuse. Think of the progess ISP's have made in 5 years, hell 10 years.
Fiber isn't super fricking expensive per foot as it was 5-7 years ago.

As consoles get that expensive though, people will just buy pcs.
Console makers are on the verge of pricing out the very market demographic they helped create (people who want to online game, but don't want a gaming pc).
If next Gen consoles cost 6 or 7 hundred, a limited selection of games with no secondary used market costing 70ish, and internet connection required... People are gonna say frick it and stay with their xbox360s/ps3s, or upgrade/build a PC.
just from reading this thread, the general consensus seems to be that no one is really looking forward to these next Gen consoles. We are all working class citizens who own consoles now, but have little interest in the next Gen... I'd say that's a problem

Even Though I may not like their plans, I'm still interested
I don't buy used games anyway
And I'm not poor

i see your points and agree that as long as my friends are still on xbox 360 and not 720, i'm staying put.
here's my PC argument. and reasons why I don't think that a huge segment of the market is going to just automatically jump to building a gaming PC.
- You and I know this best. People in general, don't know shite about PC's. They are afraid of them. Most Couldn't tell you the difference between RAM & a microprocessor. A console doesn't have to be upgraded, tinkered, and doesn't involve a operating system people can potentially frick up.
- To play on a big screen or to play on PC Monitor? Granted I know people can hook up PC's to LCD/LED/Plasma TV's and have wireless external devices. I get that. I have a setup like that myself. But the ease of tapping a power button, picking up a controller, sitting in your lazyboy, and gaming is a whole lot easier to convince normal everyday people to buy than a gaming pc with the complications of dumb people listed above.
- In the end will there really be that great of a price break between the two? I'm not so sure about that. pay up front $700 for a all-in-one console or custom build a gaming PC, buy/install other various software, buy/install games, keep it up-to-date in specs. You could make the argument either way.
- Internet. You have to have decent internet to game online for a PC or a console. I doubt they force you to have a internet connection to play a game via your profile. Seems like there will be middleware created that allows you to offline sink up your profile and the middleware recognize your profile and force the game to give you access to play. I mean that's not exactly programming brain surgery. I'm not buying this whole, you have to be signed in to your online profile to play games nonsense.
- I understand that you can do more with a PC than a console. But for how long? Yeah, I can do photoshop, itunes, and endless other programs on my PC. I get that. But at the same time.....I can watch YouTube, listen to Pandora/iHeart radio, download music/movies of Zune, share out these files to other devices, watch HBOGo, watch MLBTV, watch ESPN3, watch Hulu. Plus the PS3 has a somewhat internet browser. And that's all on a 5-6 year old console. What's next to consoles? Why fool with a PC when I have all that already?
Just a few points for ya jeff.
Listen PC fanbois: don't start with me. I'll run circles around your tiny lil IT geek minds in nerd/computer/network/server discussions. that's a waste of your time, trust me. go at someone else with that nonsense. ask my boy jeff, i'm a huge IT nerd as much as anyone here, but I'm also a consoler.

My biggest reason for avoiding PC and just staying on 360 would be not having to sit at a desk to play on a PC. Laying out sprawled on the sofa is the only way to play
But yeah, I really don't see how you can expect people to always be online to play on these consoles. That's pretty ludicrous considering people already have a few pcs and other Internet using devices that will slow the connection up.

can't see it at work and on my phone it's a blue box.
i'll just assume its a picture of a guy holding his arms out crying with a caption of, "I Miss You <3 and you are so right!"

Valid points. All we can do is speculate until we know exactly what these nextgen consoles will offer, and their opening price.
$499, Sure.
$599, eh
$699... It better offer significant advantages over the current Gen. Better gfx, quicker load times, higher framerates, better textures, etc etc
$799... No thanks

that's all we really need.
Console with PC specs and a console OS that dumb people can't frick up. microsoft and sony should use this as their next gen modo.

You telling me all the brilliant businessman sat down at a table and said how can we frick over our great customers and piss them off tremendously.
What brilliant businessman? They build their consoles on this insane business model of using hardware so expensive that it has to be sold at a heavy loss, and in their haste to beat the other company put out an unreliable product which at it's core, is basically the same as the previous one with some go faster fricking stripes. The games, the things that actually matter, are fricking the same! They just look a bit nicer, and in many cases, for all their complexity, are less fun to play than games released 10-20 years ago.
Meanwhile Nintendo sat back on their asses and released the same console again, with a stupid motion controller, and the entire world went out and bought one, because you know what, it did something fricking different. And yeah I know I'm talking to a bunch of 18-55 year old men who are thinking "Nintendogs? frick that". But they outsold Microsoft and Sony without have to wave their polygon count or processor speed around like it was some huge virtual cock, and thus didn't lose a frickton of money developing and releasing a console. Unlike Microsoft who have lost money on xbox/xbox360 and won't break even before the new console.
