I'm interested to know the thought process behind justifying those moves. They sound very alienating.

Alienating customers has been the number one goal of entertainment companies since the invention of the internet.

According to the article you can still played a used game/game not linked to your account but it will be more like a demo at that point and you will have the option of paying a fee to unlock the full game.

So let me get this straight... you can borrow/rent a game not linked to your account but it acts as a demo or a trial. So then if you like the game you have to PAY to unlock the full game on top of PAYING for the game itself because the one you borrow/rented isnt yours?

Yea it baffles me how bad they have screwed up in the internet era instead of embracing it more.

I would have to look at their numbers but my gut tells me it makes sense for them.

I think you are confused.

If I borrow a game, linked to player a's account, then its a demo for me, player b, because psn checks and sees player b playing a game linked to player a.

If I go and purchase a brand new copy of the same game, not linked to anyones account, then psn will see its a fresh copy, and allow full use.

You are double charging yourself in your scenario. You won't need to pay to "unlock" on your client

Seems logical

Yea but he is saying if you bought a used game and liked it then you do have to pay to unlock the full game. Much like buying any used EA game now and having to buy an online pass for $10.

These people are greedy as frick. They gonna charge us like 600 bucks for the console then a fee to unlock our own used games? Give me.a fricking break.

Well, then the price of used games will plummet. the laws of supply and demand always wins in a free market.

Knowing that a "unlock fee" awaits you if the game is used , should make the initial purchase pricepoint extremely low, which is exactly what game companies want.

this is what i was meaning but i didnt clarify earlier... but i was also wondering if you could even buy used games. if a game is linked to your account, i buy it from you, pay the unlock fee, it links to my account?, then i am good to go.

lets say i am ignorant about all of this and i borrow a game from you, a message pops up saying something about unlocking the game for a fee, so i pay the fee. the game is now linked to my account but when i return it to you, you then have to pay the fee to get the game back on your account.

and all of this just for the campaign, you would probably have to pay another fee to get access to the online

this is what the ps3 was at launch, so i could see the next gen being more. but bluray players were also expensive at the time the ps3 launched and that was a big selling point for them

It isn't a digital download

There's a certain market segment that will be chomping at the bit to be one of the first to get the next gen console. That demand I think is still going to keep the price high and sony/microsoft will want to get the most bang for their buck.
