Believe it or not I don't think either of these opinions would qualify as all THAT controversial.

Bioshock is a decent game at best, not a great game.

Sure the atmosphere and aesthetics are good, but the game is a hollow shell of what it could have been. Bioshock is supposedly a spiritual successor to the System Shock series, but the games mechanics and character progression were watered down to make it appealing to casuals that normally avoid games with RPG elements.

One week several years ago, I played both Bioshock and System Shock 2 for the first time, and I was surprised at how bored I was playing the newer game. I can’t imagine how disappointing Bioshock would have been if I had been a longtime System Shock fan.

I agree about BioShock being a pretty mediocre game as well.

Amazing setting, great world, great ideas, but nothing about it beyond that did anything for me.

When I realized that the enemies, including bosses, retained all damage when you respawned I was horrified. You can just equip the wrench and brute force your way through every major encounter in the game if you so choose.

You can also save anywhere at will.

All tension, all stakes, all weapons and ammo, all power ups, all completely irrelevant. It's essentially game ruining.

They patched in an option to turn off those revive tubes thankfully, if you want to play the game more legit.

It spoiled it's so much for me I never played another BioShock game. It's possible that they learned from their mistakes and it got better in that regard.

It doesn't hold up, but at the time it was really really good. The setting, story, and fluid mechanics all worked nicely to make for an awesome experience. When the pace slowed down from a tough segment the lack of newness and excitement made the games flaws more apparent. This is why it's not very good on replay

Agreed.

MGS4 and 5 were trash. And two years after the announcement of Death Stranding, no one knows what the frick that game is about.

At least the characters should be different

Immersion - in visuals, environment, story is way overrated. Useless really, there are better mediums. Games that offer purely a challenge of manual skill, reflexes, timing, memorization, etc are infinitely more unique, enjoyable, and satisfying.

Have to agree.

I played Chrono Cross first b4 Trigger, so that was probably why I feel like I do. Cross is just about the perfect JRPG IMO.

I played Cross first as well (when it came out in 2000) and only liked the soundtrack.
I never played Trigger until 2002 but I loved it.

The Nintendo 64 is a horrible console.

The Nintendo Gamecube is the only good Nintendo console.

Mass Effect 3 is my favorite game in the series.

Zelda BotW and Mario Odyssey are average games that are over-hyped due to nostalgia.

I'm sure this is quite an epic game but I couldn't get over a few BIG mechanics.

Mario Odyssey

This game looked good, and if you're a big platformer fan, probably great fun, but it was so damn formulaic. Get to an area, those damn rabbits did something at the top of the map, beat whatever rabbit is up there and whatever same mechanic you saw earlier and get enough moons to leave, next area. I was over it by the end.

Did you hear Dan's rant on it this week?

Yes.

Was so happy to hear someone else felt the same. The game is great, it is great. But just not enjoyable.

TBH it was hard to get past the first 1hr of gameplay.
