What do people think about this? Switch killer? Will people be able to run mods on games (e.g. Dark Souls mods)?

No, because you still won't be able to play Nintendo games on this. That's Nintendo's big trump card and always will be.

I'm getting a Switch not because of portability reasons. I just want to play Zelda and Metroid.

I actually like the look and it seems like it would feel really comfortable in your hands. But obviously I would need to get ahold of one first to see.

Pretty excited. Playing stuff like Skyrim or Witcher 3 on switch sounds nice until you have to use the thumbsticks. Should run stuff much better as well. IGN hands on said mods work. Can even uninstall steamos and install windows if you wanted.

I could never get a switch because of performance problems, but I'll definitely get this.

A portable device that can play steam games sounds amazing, but I'll have to wait and see how they turn out before thinking about buying one.

Yeah it's a full blown handheld PC, runs windows apps and everything. Pretty sick.

Only issue is Steam's history with hardware. SteamLink, Steam Machine. I guess the SteamVR equipment is still supported.

Though while the SteamLink hardware might not be made anymore, it looks like they have the software for GoogleTV and AppleTV now.

Can you put emulators and roms on it? To me, basically turning it into a portable NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. (something you can't do with the Switch) would easily add to it's allure for me.

I have my Retropie, but that's not portable

Why are the buttons so high up on the device?

Looks like an old Sega GameGear.

Those bricks were fun back in the day.

I think it looks more like an Atari Lynx

The Game Gear had a more vertical form (I stand corrected, my memory served me poorly on that one)

Looks badass but might be something i have to wait on. you have to purchase a reservation so im wondering if these things will basically be impossible to get at first.

This will probably be more powerful then a Switch, so it could probably run many of the Nintendo titles, even switch titles that have roms

It's equivilant to a PS4 in raw power.

Zen 2 + RDNA2 APU at 15w full power.

quote:

Durante (PH3) on the Steam Deck: "The GPU is about as fast in raw performance as a base PS4, but it's a much newer and more efficient architecture (the same as PS5/XSX)"; "[…] it has about the same raw GPU performance per pixel when targeting 1280x800 as the Xbox Series X has when targeting 4k"

I have no desire to play my Steam library on a handheld device. Hardly want to play my games sitting at my PC these days.
