I worked at Best Buy during college when the kinect 1 was released. You'd be surprised at how most of the people buying it were from me were parents for their small children. I'm not sure if this is exactly applicable to most but I could be wrong.

Well if it was plugged in it was always watching but you did have the option to remove it. Hell, I even sold mine because it just sat there mostly. Maybe I am downplaying the Internet thing but it's really because I can't remember the last time my Xbox wasn't connected to the Internet.

If they have a large amount of dedicated servers they may even sway me to get PS4 first honestly. Xbox live has been what keeps me coming back but if PSN makes a good step forward that to me could be a huge game changer.
