Man I was 20 minutes into a lure/incense/lucky egg combo, had just finished ally evolves and had 2 eggs about to hatch. Then I was going to go take over the gym near me and the app crashed

I don't think explaining Pidgey lvling to noobs is a good idea. They are casuals, you will burn them out fast lol.
Let them get their feet wet pursuing uncommons and different things and they will eventually find Pidgey lvling if they decide to go past casual.

If you hatch a lucky egg and evolve stuff you'll level up from 5 to like 11 in 30 minutes

Started this game today and have no idea about any of these characters. Wanted to see what all the talk was about and have to say the game play is an interesting and fun concept. Caught four today at work. Nidoran, Pidgey, Bellsprout and Psyduck. Only level 3 but could see how this game can be addicting.

This is across from my office. Do pokes congregate around pokestops or do number of people make it tough to get them

Yes, right now just catch all you can. You'll level up plenty fast just doing that. build up a supply of the three I mentioned that are ready to evolve (that you have enough candy to evolve all of them). Once you have a huge back load, use a lucky egg (they double your XP for 30 mins) and evolve all of them. You will power level.

it just levels your guy up...you get better items (balls/potions) and tend to see higher CP pokemon as you level.

For one, the higher your XP, the higher the level of the CP (Combat Points) of the Pokemon you can get. Some people in the 15-20 range have 600-1000 CP Pokemon.
Another thing it does is give you a higher chance of seeing rarer Pokemon. Or so I've heard.

I'm typically in downtown NOLA. So I'm constantly clearing out potions and such to make sure I have a comfortable level of balls and great balls. In downtown BR today.

If I get to level 9, do I wait and pop the egg when I am in a location with a lot of stops...does it even matter?
