Evolving should be the least of your worries right now, as is leveling up (the pokemon). I didn't evolve anything besides pidgey, weedle, or caterpie until I was over level 15 (except for a random pokemon I didn't care about and just wanted the pokedex entry). It is just like the old gameboy games. Once you get higher levels, you will find the beginning stage pokemon at higher levels than your evolved ones, so don't waste the candy early on.

Looks like the servers are down for me right now. It's also 5:00 AM tomorrow morning in Japan right now... so I think the rest of the day here is fricked.

yeah, this impending server crash might kill PoGo in NA.

yea, it only recognizes your new level when you capture or fight after making the level I think, so if you level five times without doing ANYTHING in between the levels, it may only recognize it once.

Not sure if this is the case of if there's just a lag in between actually leveling up and the game recognizing it.

I mean fricking A. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company own part of Ninantic, surely after all the money they have made they can invest in more servers and a few more staff members to keep the damn game up and running.
