I have done every option quest I have gotten. I am OCD like that. I won't move on without the completed sign on all optional stuff.
Also made sure to do all the expedition quest. And found all the new palico moves. One gives you more parts from monsters. May fav.

This game...........I know nothing about what the Palico offers

Yea, this game has so many layers. High Rank armor is another level of customization.
As for Palico, they offer buffs when with you.
Starter Buff = He heals you
Ancient forest unlock = Sets traps for you
Waste unlock = Taunts and uses shield bash to aggro monster
Coral Highlands unlock = Buffs your attack and defense
Rotten Vale = Get more drops from monsters
I have not gotten to the last zone, so not sure if there is one there.

this game really hard to solo with a bow or do I just suck?
I’ve only played bow and managed to solo several monsters, but more often than not popped SOS flares.
Bow is a monster if you are with other people.

Bow is amazing solo. Watch some videos on YouTube and you'll realize how bad you truly are
. I did

Will that take away the vitality wasp he gives me every time I’m dying? Because that’s essential.
Any tips as far as armor sets? What should I be looking for in terms of resistances, etc. I’m about to encounter Zorra for the first time and I just have a mixture of armor pieces.
Also, what does everybody have growing in the tree at base? I currently have Honey for the Mega Potions.

As far as I understand, armor selection at Low Rank isn’t super important.
I used a couple of pieces of the Bone set and some other random stuff.
The bigger problem for me is picking a weapon to main. I would love to use the Charge Blade, but holy frick does that require a lot of practice. I still also like the Switch Axe, Gunlance, and Insect Glaive too. When hunting with friends bringing along a ranged weapon seems really good too.

I started with the switch axe but I was getting wrecked. Gun Lance was next and I love it. Still have mastered all the combos yet.

Charge Blade is the best weapon. But easily is the toughest to use.
Best DPS.
Can Guard
Can KO
Can Cut
Can use quick or powerful attacks.
Just a pain to learn. Thinking of switching to it now that I am in HR. Been Hammer so far.

Yeah, it seems like they just stuck everything into that weapon. It actually seems a bit like it take diminishes the other weapons.

That is a common complaint of players. It can do a lot of weapons jobs, that only have one job, just as well or better. It is cool to have a jack of all trades but sucks that in this case it is better at doing that trade than the weapon with only 1 job.
Now only skilled players tend to be able to use it that way.

I am a lance main.
Good damage, great defense. Mounting monsters for days with the vaulting move.
I generally run the poison lance or the tier 4 bone lance for straight damage.
Anticipating attacks for counter thrusting and knowing when to advance or retreat based on monster attacks is very fun.
I find lance a more cerebral weapon than a reactive one. I like it a lot.
ETA: I unlocked the blue tier weapons last night

Ive been using the cb since I started. This is my first experience with Monster Hunter. Once you get the combos down, its downright lethal. Charge the axe or charge the shield, either way, it delivers some pain.

I'm early on, but I'm digging the hammer the most.

I've made a swap from the insect glaive to the Gunlance and im having a fun time with it. Poke poke shoot.

I gave the hammer a go for a few hunts, but found that I either want a shield or something I can dodge with quickly and not be stuck in attack animations.
But I'll tell you when that hammer hits, it HITS.
I'd rather the long sword if I'm going to use a weapon that cant guard

I think I'm enjoying it the most due to the sheer satisfaction I get from a well placed strike to a mofo's head.

Well I hit my first real challenge in Odagoron. Only got two attempts tonight, but frick that guy.
The fact that you may have to fight him in an area with a continuous damage aura is just extra bullshif
