I have learned that capturing is much better than killing.

It is easier and you get better rewards.

I can't beat Diablos. Didn't really have any trouble with any monster until now.

That is about right. Everything should be pretty easy until Rathalos and Diablos. Rank 5.
Wait until you get to High Rank.

I finally beat Diablos.

I'm assuming high rank starts soon.

I beat the campaign.

Real game is only just beginning apparently. Once you beat the campaign you complete 'Low rank'.

Now I'm on high rank hunts. It seems like it's a bit of another campaign, but mixed with optional hunts. Monsters are tougher, clearly. Also there is two sets of high rank armor it seems for all monsters. So the armor you have is pretty much obsolete at this new rank.

I've also been able to take part in all of the high rank rank missions so far with my friends who are also there, so that's nice. Not having to back out after cutscenes and what not.

Apparently in previous MH games, the top tier of challenges was called 'G Rank'. No one is sure if G Rank will exist in this game, because it wasn't in it at launch. But I'd be surprised if Capcom doesn't add a lot more monsters throughout the life of the game.

They are already adding deviljho in spring. With a lot more plans for free DLC.

I am sure G rank will come.

The replayability is immense. As I have been trying to tell everyone. The real game is at high rank multiplayer. That is where all the actual good loot and grind for gear is. Monsters have new moves, are tougher and new monsters are introduced still. There is also 14 weapons with most playing very different.

How many hunts are there in low rank?

Low rank ends after you beat Rathalos and Diablos and then take on Zorah Magdaros for a second time.

The story slows down a lot after this, and the game opens up way more, allowing you do to anything you want in high rank that you've already done in low rank.

There is still some story left to explore and a whole new zone, and several more monsters to unlock that are only available in high rank.

Is this game really hard to solo with a bow or do I just suck?

Be honest.

Some people are nasty with a bow solo. I have not played with it much though. Probably not new player friendly.

Learn your coatings and weak points. Dragon shot (circle plus traingle) or whatever its called can do some serious damage if you get an opening

I think my issue has been I've been following a lot of advice and only doing the story stuff. Problem is in the course of it I'm not hunting for materials I need to upgrade my bow. I think I'm just severely underpowered. I'm just going to explore tonight.

It does, but dammit, if you're solo, that's a small window, and you can't cancel out of it. I'd think I'd have an opening, initiate the shot, and the a-hole would turn around and charge me. Every. Damn. Time.

Yea that is not great advice. This game puts walls on you. You need to do optional quest and upgrade gear. Especially weapons. You can learn to not get hit, but faster kills is always wanted.

Sticking to the story goes against everything I believe in and it's been killing me to ignore the optional stuff.
