Spent 31 minutes against the Pink Rathian and failed

I think tomorrow being not tired, he won’t be particularly problematic

On the Odagaron, there is a belt that you can craft with efluvian buff on it. that will allow you to go into the rotten vale and not be affected by the poison air. The biggest challenge I had with him was his bleed effect. Astera jerky will take care of that.
Another good weapon to use is the dual blades. Those absolutely shred, combo and dodge.
I completed all of the optional quests up to 5star, working on 6 now and the other elder dragons are making appearances. At one time last night, I was against the stronger Barroth, the stronger Anjarath and Bezelguese just happened to jump in the fight. Needless to say, I ran away

After getting armor that nullified the poison and realizing why they gave me Astera Jerky, I killed him today with no faints. Mostly though I think not being tired was the key.
Back on track.

That is the first battle that is a real check it seems.
Quick pace and he flies around the arena. It’s a good benchmark test for sure.

He has like zero side attacks so just don't stay in front or behind him unless you have to. Crouch in place for a bit clears bleed, as will well-done steaks or jerky.

The real secret for me was the jerky plus nullifying the ambient poison.
It allows you to play the fight a good bit slower. He is so aggressive that it is a big change from most things I had fought so far.
Crouching may work for MP, but it was a huge pain solo.

I play all solo. I would just break sight with him to kill bleeding. Hope my cat got his attention.

Palico=GOAT
ETA: Speaking of palico, be sure to do the Grimalkyne quest in the rotten vale for the plunderblade Palico skill.
It is a detailed quest, but pretty easy overall.

First thing I did when unlocking the Vale.
Also for people who have never played the previous games. Absolutely buy the power and armor charm from the shop in town. Keep it your inventory at all times.

Are one of these the one that costs 36K?
I don't think I've ever had more than 25K

They are almost necissities for HR from what I've experienced. Well worth the money. I found a good way to make money is sell all the unused mats that you have while leveling up that you're obviously arent going to use any more of.

Yes, They are pricey but they are very good buffs.
Power Charm is 6 true power (True Power is not the number on your weapon)
Armor Charm is 8 defense

bought this game yesterday. it's ok so far, little too japanese for me, dumb cat puns, and the wonky multiplayer is annoying. combat is fun tho
this is the weapon I picked as my first weapon. liking it so far. just killed the first great jagra with it
it's basically a hammer that plays music and can give buffs

It gets much harder after the story is finished and there's more story elements and cutscenes to follow. The game is pretty deep
I want to check-in this thread to say that I picked up this game to give it another shot after finishing the bloodborne DLC and it's growing on me.
My opinion judging the game by the small sample size of the beta was premature. There is much more going on in the full game, the beta gave me a bad impression.
