The Great GTA 6 rugpull, and how it will sink AAA even lower.
Did you pre-order GTA 6? Well that email they sent you about "getting a physical copy later" was a "lie."
Hollywood Reporter confirms, NO PHYSICAL MEDIA.
Rockstar lied by omission, lied by false implication. They want to be able to say YOU misunderstood what they meant. You thought you were getting a disc? Noooo you silly ignorant gamer, physical means EMPTY BOX. Everybody knows that! YOU misunderstood, YOU are the problem.
You thought you get the full game for $80? Silly gamer! You need the $100 version if you want any customization!
But why be cagey in the first place?
Back in Feb, the Internet got word of the secret plans for no physical media. Rightfully they were upset.
The response? Take Two's CEO came out to loudly state in press that there would be a "strong physical presence." He knew what he was doing. He knew you would think DISC, because that is what everyone was worried about in Feb and the last thing he wanted was to tank pre-orders. So he lead you down a path, didn't he? Placated the gamers...
And now they are doing it again, sending out an email to assure everyone who pre-orders will get a physical copy...yes, a copy of an empty box...no disc, which is NEVER MENTIONED in the email and, turns out, was never going to happen.
And c'mon, they are gating core customization features behind the $100 version now?
We're at the new Horse Armor moment in gaming.
GTA 6 is probably going to be an amazing game (it better be, or the backlash will be huge). These sales tactics will work brilliantly and make Take Two and Rockstar billions.
But the precedent it sets is AWFUL for the rest of gaming. $100 games (not 80, 80 will forever be the "lite" version), and no more discs. Buy air in a box, be a good consumer and shill this for us please, streamers.

I don't have an opinion about the disc issue, but I'll say again, studios are going to have to know that only so many games are going to be able to get away with that price point, GTA being maybe the only one currently, and now with this uproar, I don't see it driving prices up. Goodwill with the gaming community is on very thin ice, this would destroy it completely.

We all know it is going to happen.
Hell Outer Worlds 2 tried to go to 80, and got laughed at
Eventually, assuming gamers don't magically become automatons, they will realize that they can't get away with it and will autocorrect
I predict shite's gonna get weird for AAA gaming starting in December

Doom The Dark Ages was another early adopter of $80 and it sold extremely poorly.
A lot of franchises will be finding out they aren't the "must haves" they think they are if they try to jack up prices.

Exactly what I'm saying. If they're smart (lol), they won't attempt it and then have to backtrack on their pricing, which will be even worse PR wise.
"Maybe we should consider that we're not putting out one of the most highly anticipated games in the last 20 years..."

I bet you see attempts to imitate the skeevy monetization, too

All of the numbskull retards who paid $100 for a box with a code inside of it need to have their voting rights revoked.
You’re simply renting the license code to a game with no real ownership of it. Rockstar can revoke your access at any time, and decades down the road when they will inevitably delist the GTA 6 server, you’ll lose access to not only the online part but the single player as well.

Playstation Store is about to remove a bunch of movies that people have purchased, so not sure why it's a laughable thought.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Keep buying digital, morons. I'll keep having my physical media that can't be deleted from my bookshelf.
ETA: If they don't do a physical version of this game, I'll just wait to play it when it hits Game Pass in a few years. No skin off my back.

If anything, this whole debacle just goes to show that Zoomers are nothing but a bunch of sheep-minded zombies who want instant gratification. They can’t think or feel, they just want to instantly pre-order whatever looks good without putting any research into what the game will actually look like. They want to stay inside their fake and plastic world of TikTok and Instagram where they mindlessly scroll through reels after reels to get their information on things. Absolute clowns is what they are.

In this case, they haven't even seen any gameplay yet. They're buying based solely on one cinematic trailer that isn't representative of actual gameplay at all. And then losing their minds when this reality is pointed out to them. It's insane.

I’ll admit, I preordered the ultimate edition. One game every 13 years. Seems worth it
