"My controller's broke!", said the loser. Gamepads, joysticks, and whatever helps you move in the game.
Me:
My rich friend or my friend with divorced parents
Dreamcast with vmu and rumble pack was a milestone for me. Honorable mention 64 joystick

Have owned all but 1, 7, and 8.
Have played all but 1.
Best ever made is 12 or 19 for ergonomics.
Favorite of all time is probably a tie between NES and SNES.

Started with 2.
The only design that ever truly felt off or bad was the N64. Its aged terribly as well. Single analog stick? Get the frick out of here.
I mostly use kb/m or an elite Xbox controller on my pc at this stage. I don’t have any issues with the dualsense. Adaptive triggers are a neat concept. Just not widely supported by pc titles unfortunately.

Used all of them at some point, owned maybe 80%.
The snes controller is easily the best non-stick controller.
The best stick controller isn't even pictured. The Switch 1 Pro controller is the best feeling controller ever. The inaccurate dpad knocks off some points.
Worst "real" controller pictured is gigantic original Xbox. I don't even consider the Switch joycon grip thing a real controller, it's almost unusable.

Genesis 6 button controller was perfect for Mortal Kombat and a great controller overall.

No love for the Sega Master System? The 2600 was the first time I played a video game at my cousins house but the Master System was my first console.

Don't see the Radio Shack-branded Pong machine shown, but that was my first:
Favorite would probably be the Dual Shock 2, with the smaller XBox (non-Duke) revision model taking the silver.
I'd always said that if they came up with a better controller than the PS2 Dual Shock 2, then it would need to plug straight into your brain.

Once you get to 9 and 10 we're basically at the carcinization of console controllers not counting the Wiimote.
Two sticks, 8ish face buttons and 4+ shoulder/rear trigger buttons. Size and shape varies but to me they're all the same controller.

I started with #1 from your image, favorite is probably the current Switch2 Pro controller or the XBox series 2 controller.

First is #1, favorite is #12. I remember discovering it and wondering why anyone was still using #11. I would keep one in my car at all times because you never know when a Halo LAN party is going to happen.
