For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.

As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.

Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.

We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us.

From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

not going to lie, mixed feelings on this. some of the smoothest gun play in any game (s) ever and taken king was some peak gaming. but man, did they let themselves get too invested in politics and lose sight of just making a good game. if the studio survives long enough to make 3, it'd be hard not to check it out though.

The update itself is actually pretty awesome and a lot have been begging for. Really makes me wonder what things would have been like if they had done these updates with TFS launch.

Bittersweet that the story is finally coming to an end. Its been an awesome ride, albeit a chatoic one. Still one of the best playing games out there, just so buttery smooth as far as movement and gunplay that still makes going to other games difficult. I'll still be on it plenty, but man, coming up on 13 years of Destiny at this point.

Also, live look at Gambit right now:

Come on, you can't expect a mom and pop 3.6 billion dollar company to actually support TWO whole games at the same time right?

Destiny 3 or is Bungie hellbent on not making money?

Once the original content got vaulted it was the beginning of the end. They did what they could but ultimately lost their way with the game. It had huge potential to be a lasting game in the community.

Destiny 2 is ending while they are still putting money and effort behind Marathon…. You tell me

This management team belongs in straitjackets. Clinically insane to put any more resources towards a product the market has made clear it has no interest in

The fact that they neglected the Destiny 2 faithful and just gave up after The Final Shape in favor of this mid game no one gives a shite about is an inevitable case study in strategic delusion

They are doomed. Not that focusing on Destiny 2 would save them but they have a better chance of revitalizing a dying popular game than another extraction shooter that nobody wanted to play.

I am not a destiny 2 player but have a question. Is this one of those games that people have spent thousands of dollars on? I remember reading something a few years ago that said it would cost thousands of dollars to unlock all destiny 2 content or something like that. I don't remember if that included micro transactions and guns or just actual content.

If so, it's wild to see that just kind of coming to an end. We pay for many things in life that are not permanent, but something like this can hit different and make you feel like a fool.

Going all in on marathon is such a mistake. Were better off just evolving destiny 3 into something bigger and better

Sony and Bungie's leadership are clueless.

Spending that kind of money in Marathon was beyond dumb.

Destiny is the franchise. Admittedly, the most recent content was awful (matterspark was beyond defense), but it is a much more attractive IP than marathon

Hoping for a D3, but I don't see it happening.

Day 1 Destiny 1 alpha player here. Sad day for sure.

How many hours do you have logged for the game?

My oldest son plays it and he said he is over 6k hours.

Nah, it isn't quite that extreme but it is up there. If we are including Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 base game with every Expansion story, DLC, Annual/Season Passes, etc I think the number was around $750 over 12 years, taking us through The Final Shape Expansion. So probably roughly just under $800 through the most recent expansion that we are in currently. That would be buying everything day 1 and not waiting for any bundles or anything, which there has been plenty of that would make it cheaper.

I *think* you can currently get everything D2 related for like $250 or so at the moment, and that will obviously be going down in a couple weeks it looks like.

Part of the big exodus that occurred was when Bungie sunset a bunch of old content that people already paid for. They've ended up bringing most of it back "revamped" which pissed off even more people and caused another exodus

Sad day here. Day 1 destiny 1 player, 12 years of mostly great times. The gameplay/gunplay has ruined me for other games. Hope a D3 is coming though it would be years down the line. Bungie leadership is a case study on what not to do
