I see Charleston popping up on a lot of top 10 list.

That whole region between north Georgia and North Carolina has really been exploding in terms of food and craft beer the last 5-10 years.

If craft beer is factored into the tabulation of what makes a Top 5 food city, I retract my previous statement and Boston should be included.

Big push on using local fresh ingredients. Fusing Afro-Caribbean influence from Gullah culture with French technique.

Was there last week at FIG. Perhaps a top 10 meal I've ever had

Guess I wasn't really thinking that, but if it is, Denver needs to be on the short list. They have some solid food and world class breweries.

Friend,

10. Dallas
9. Philadelphia
8. Hoboken
7. New Haven
6. Houston
5. Seattle
4. Los Angeles
3. Washington DC
2. New York
1. New Orleans

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. Chicago and San Francisco are the most overrated food cities in America. I’ve never had a good meal in either city.

Greenville, SC should be top 5 if talking specifically about the southeast.

Yes, Greenville is a good food city, but I'd rank Asheville above it.

I don't live there anymore, but if you factor in beer, wine, coffee, foot carts, etc, Portland, OR needs to be on the list or just outside the top 5. Surprised nobody has mentioned it.

Abita, care to make a Portland recommendation? Imma need you to account for the fact it will be a 7-man group that has been brewery hopping for the afternoon.

Portland, OR was definitely on some of the list I've seen. One even had them #1, but having never been there, I wouldn't know.

For lunch? Duckfat. For dinner? Honey Paw.

Honey Paw is one of the best places I could recommend in any city

After I saw you list Gino’s and Pizano’s as “famed” pizza places in Chicago, I decided your opinion means shite. They aren’t famed, and I’m not sure who told you otherwise.

You’ve basically shown me, over-and-over, that you just sit in downtown Chicago with the 10,000 other tourists. Get into the neighborhoods and turn off Guy Fieri.

Just FYI, Southern Living names these as the top 5 food cities in the South:

5. Atlanta, GA
4. Nashville, TN
3. Savannah, GA
2. Charleston, SC
1. New Orleans, LA

Someone has a anti Houston bias

Portland, Me def has a great restaurant scene. Even some of the small towns in NH have several outstanding restaurants.

Chef Sean Brock help put Charleston on the map, he may be in Nashville now - he did a lot of things with low country foods - and there are a lot of farms growing heirloom edibles that people used to eat and can be pretty unique (to those who haven’t heard of it)

I don’t see the Austin thing. But that’s just me. I don’t find they have their own flavor like Miami, New Orleans, New York (although many flavors) - there’s better barbecue and Tex-Mex elsewhere like Houston
