Your resturant secrets / hacks

What are some hacks you've learned over the years in going to / selecting restaurants:
My biggest is the hamburger at the bar dinner at a nice steak house. So I'm someone who's a bit on the conservative side when it comes to money, and this makes spending some serious coin on a steak a bit tough for me. However, I've consistently found that most steakhouses have incredible burgers that are made with such high-quality cuts.
Sitting at the bar of a steakhouse with a glass of bourbon and a hamburger is my restaurant go-to move. Yal got any good ones?

I noticed when I eat all the tortilla chips at my local mexican restaurant that they don’t even pay attention and just bring another basket without charging me. Craziest thing and happens every time I go. Of course I’ll never reveal my honeyhole so don’t even bother asking me to reveal my honeyhole local mexican restaurant.

Yeah man. I order water with extra lemons and use all of the sugar packs to make lemonade. And the places that let you eat all the crackers with butter you want are the bomb.

I don't think this is a secret... or hack. It's you not wanting to spend money on a steak.

Some Mexican restaurants have quite the tasty burger although it is difficult to order a burger at a Mexican joint with all of the other offerings, I get that. But if you have a craving for a decent burger and have a Mexican place nearby you may want to give it a try.

If you tell the server that your steak is under cooked or cold they're just going to take it in the back and wipe their arse with it after putting it in the microwave. So don't do that.

I usually order off menu items that they don't advertise and are only offered to me. I think they are called "specials"
What a dumb arse thread. OP probably thinks he is beating the system going and only ordering off happy hour menu

Drink water during the meal then after you pay ask for a soft drink or tea to go.

In New Orleans
Waiter: Have you been here before?
Always yes. I dont want to be treated like some dumb tourist and I dont need help with the menu as I prob know it better than the server

Know the owner or head chef of the restaurant where you are eating and you will likely get at least some free food or drink.
Also the off menu fried chicken at Galatoire's is the tits.

Back when weed was illegal in CA, there was a KFC drive-thru in Oakland that sold weed if you asked for extra biscuits.

1 - Anyone who says a certain restaurant has the best cheap steaks in the region may understand what cheap means, but they have no idea what a good steak tastes like. With steak, you get cheap and you get good, almost never both cheap and good.
2 - Try not to order fish on Monday, especially in a restaurant away from the beach.
3 - Always question if the special of the day is something the chef would like very much to get rid of.
4 - If you are one of those who tell their waiter they tip extra for some special consideration, understand the waiter immediately hates you and doesn't believe you.
5 - It is hard to beat a catfish restaurant that cooks crinkle cut fries. If they cook crinkle fries and are an all you can eat place, get seconds on the fries, also.
6 - BBQ always tastes better after the third beer.
7 - Good fried dill pickles are always worth ordering.
8 - If they have squeeze bottles of homemade Thousand Island dressing and Captain's Wafers Crackers on the table. Call me and let me know the name and address of the place.
9 - Good onion rings are an art form. Respect the artist who creates them.
That might be all the advice I can give.
Oh, sorry the #4 is the best thing on the menu at Taco Bell.

Who does this? I've waited tables (albeit it's been a good while) and still never heard this one.

And what's with you Mississippi folks liking old school salad dressings on odd non-salad foods? The Biloxi-French Dressing-on-pizza deal takes the cake.

Never said anything about pizza, or Biloxi.
Happy for you and the a-hole customer.

If you get something with bones it it, take the bones home in a doggie back.
There's still plenty of meat on that bone. Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you've got a stew going.
