Hamburger steak

When you know that the restaurant might screw up anything more complicated, hamburger steak is the go-to. I’ve used this rule in many places while traveling.

I'm not sure I could even find a picadilly today.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s there was always a line around the building for Sunday lunch.

Hold on to your wallet that must set you back bunch.

That was my issue with Piccadilly. My eyes were bigger than my wallet and I would hit the floor when I got the ticket at the end and it was over 20 dollars.

That is why I will go to a buffet instead of Piccadilly. If Piccadilly ever changed to a buffet model, they could rise from the slump they are in. No more cafeteria line, just pick what you want for one low price.

Hamburger steak, green beans, mashed taters, and a roll.

I miss bicycling to the one in the Oil Center in Lafayette to eat.

I'm in the midwest now, there are no cafeteria type restrauants. I really miss going to these types of places, though I did hate standing in line when we went on Sunday after church.

Piccadilly used to be so much better in the 80s and 90s. Almost everything there was made in house. Rolls and pies come to mind. Their fried chicken used to be great. And it used to be real catfish.

Today, not so much. But that doesn't mean that I don't like it. It's just not the same. Cost-cutting measures take priority over quality.

I find their roast beef, as long as it is medium-rare or medium is still pretty good, along with their hamburger steak, but sadly, it's a pre-made patty today.

Growing up, I would always go with my grandmother after school, and occasionaly, as a family, I'd always go with my siblings and mom and dad after church on Sunday. My grandmother passed over 30 years ago, and my mom died almost 6 months ago, and my dad will be gone exactly 1 year tomorrow.

After editing and writing this, the food now seems irrelevant. If you have a mom or dad, a grandmother or grandfather, and/or siblings, and your relationship is strained, try putting it aside, because likely whatever the perceived issue is --- it likely won't matter in the end.

I agree, food is not as good as it once was, but still a nostalgia meal when we are back in town.

My 12 year old always asks to go for lunch when we are there, of course Grandma loves to meet us there.
