Doubtful that you've lived in both cities.

Lived in Chicago for 2 years (Old Town for a year and Buckhead for a year) and Houston for 3 years (all in The Heights).

The statement that Chicago food takes Houston's is beyond laughable. And this comes from someone who hates their hot dogs and deep dish pizzas.

Having been born and raised in the Chicago area, I can honestly say that you're an ignorant moron.

Have at it if you like to do it. How many years will in be until you reach playing in kitchens for forty years? That happens in December for me. Get back to me on that one.

ETA In two years it will be fifty years.

Ever heard about the sources of food by a given regions culture and historical make up? If you haven't lets try the two easiest examples to introduce into your head as they are indigenous to Louisiana, Cajun and Creole are the two and they developed differently in a region that was less than two hundred miles apart. Now imagine what differences that are evident in China or Russia. Add to those two India. The fact that you have to ask about the word ethnic means is a tad scary to fathom.

This is post is the very definition of trying too hard.

Deep dish, "Chicago" dogs, and Italian beef.

Looks like you fell into nearly every touristy food trap Chicago has to offer.

Connie's??? Portillo's???

I might as well go to Popeye's for crawfish bites, and Pappadeaux for seafood.

It's a great restaurant run very well. The one in Metairie and on St. Charles are top notch establishments that have only gotten better with time. Name me a better, more consistent fried seafood restaurant with city limits? Maybe Deanie's. Maybe Drago's. I really think that a lot of New Orleans people hate on the restaurant because of the name and the chain feel. The food it puts out is excellent, consistent, and great value. Name a better fried seafood sit down restaurant within city limits. No more a chain than any of John Besh's restaurants. And besides August, NOLAHS is better than all of Besh's restaurants.

Dead serious. I've eaten at Luke (absolutely horrible), his cafe in the WW2 museum (gross but not as bad as Luke), and Domenica (just awful pizza). Haven't eaten at Borgne or his steakhouse, but the other three, I would take NOHSC before them every time without hesitancy.

It's funny that he claims new orleans is far superior to CHI yet comes out with statements like this

You beat me to it. I used to travel to Chicago a lot. In general I was not impressed with the ethnic food until I discovered the Greek places. They are terrific.

I'm not sure Americans quite understand how wonderful the people of New Orleans have it, at least in terms of cuisine. If you ever see a ranking that has Chicago ahead of New Orleans, please disregard that list ASAP. As far as I can tell, the only cities I would ever travel to for the purpose of eating are New York, DC, and New Orleans. Houston, Los Angeles, maybe Seattle or San Fran would be next in line. But never, ever would I put Chicago there.

Oh look. Another circle jerk leader from NOLA here telling us how great the food is there. Better than Chicago. Hell he claims Houston kicks Chicago's arse in food. Houston does have some good taco's. I agree with that but thats where I stop with that.

Spent a ton of time in chi-town the last few years and actually lean to the OPs opinion. Outside of the wealthier areas in the north, the working masses there are accustomed to a very bland diet.

I read recently where Houston is now the epicenter of ethnic
diversity, taking over from NYC. The diversity and quality of cuisine smokes Chicago.

As someone who's lived all over the world, you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere in the States who's food doesn't seem bland if you grew-up in Louisiana. Nothing touches the food in Louisiana.

Ok now that's just funny. Houston has as much ethnic diversity in their cuisine as Dallas does.

Idiot. I know for a fact that Houstom has two or three Pancho's All you can eat Mexican buffets.

edited to add:

From their very informative website - See here

5442 North Freeway,Houston,TX - 713 697 2713
11560 Gulf Freeway,Houston, TX - 713 946 4600

two of many reasons to live in houstom

I stand corrected. Evidently ethnic diversity is a well documented fact.

An actual quote from This article

"We are a little United Nations," Pearland Mayor Tom Reid said. "You go to one of our neighborhoods, and there will be a person from Nigeria living next to somebody from India, living next to somebody from Mexico and somebody from Louisiana."

Way to go, Louisiana, right up there with Nigeria and India.

Just kidding guys, but (check it out) the mayor did say that.

I've been to Chicago a few times and I have enjoyed the food there. Adobe Grill is a Mexican food joint up there that is as a good as any restaurant I've ever been. Longman & Eagle is a fantastic neighborhood place with a great bar. Hotel restaurants are good there. Rosebud. Gibson's Streakhouse. All those places are first rate. I am in NOLA all the time and I think NOLA has really good restaurants. The places I have been in CHI are on par with NOLA.
