Have you been to Gene and Georgetti? I loved it. Different from Ruth's Chris, so I wouldn't compare the two, but I'd go back to G & G in a heartbeat.

To be fair, you're talking about a hot dog.

Also seems like you don't like them so your argument on them being shitty everywhere is funny.

You're a troll and a terrible one at that. Having lived in Chicago for 8 years, who the hell hasn't heard of Deerfield?

If Portillo's is a tourist trap, why is there only one of about 25 in the area that is located in a tourist area? Regardless of argument about it being touristy or not, they do make a good Italian beef.

Chinatown on the other hand, can you recommend a good restaurant? I've been to two that were just terrible and not cheap either.

Are you seriously attempting to argue that Portillo's isn't a tourist trap? The food isn't bad by any means. It's actually pretty good. But, it the textbook definition of tourist trap.

I spent 10 hours in Chicago 20 years ago, and I know that Deerfield is a burb of Chicago (Deer Park is a burb of Houston).

Seems to me you just don't like certain types of food: Deep Dish Pizza, Hot Dogs, and a more "hearty" type of food. Here's a suggestion: Don't travel to Central Europe (Germany, Czech Rep., Hungary, etc.). You'll hate the food there too, I'm sure.

I'm done with this troll. This is the same poster that has said (regarding New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company):

quote:

It's a great restaurant run very well. The one in Metairie and on St. Charles are top notch establishments that have only gotten better with time. Name me a better, more consistent fried seafood restaurant with city limits? Maybe Deanie's. Maybe Drago's. I really think that a lot of New Orleans people hate on the restaurant because of the name and the chain feel. The food it puts out is excellent, consistent, and great value. Name a better fried seafood sit down restaurant within city limits. No more a chain than any of John Besh's restaurants. And besides August, NOLAHS is better than all of Besh's restaurants.

quote:

Dead serious. I've eaten at Luke (absolutely horrible), his cafe in the WW2 museum (gross but not as bad as Luke), and Domenica (just awful pizza). Haven't eaten at Borgne or his steakhouse, but the other three, I would take NOHSC before them every time without hesitancy.

My unbiased appreciation of NOHSC is a thorn in your side. Ten years ago yeah, NOHSC wasn't very good. But when I tried it two years ago on a trip back, I realized good the new ownership had made it. True, it's not as good as a place like Castnet or Harbor Seafood, but within city limits, I'd put NOHSC fried seafood up against anyone, even Casamento's. The name and chain feel do not give me pause to recommend it because I base my judgment on the product they serve and the price, both of which are very good.

Oh my goodness...

I can appreciate differences of opinion on food and restaurants, but those quotes are too far off the mark even for me.

Carry on, Chicago.

We took our first trip to Chicago last month. We were always eating on the run, but we did eat deep dish pizza at Giordano's which was excellent. Our only fine dining experience while there was at Catch Thirty Five, and it was one of my top 2 meals so far this year. Chicago ranks as my favorite city I've visited, and I travel quite a bit.

I really enjoyed eating in Chicago both times I went. However, I'm definitely Team NY Style Pizza.

Is "OP is a moron" a legitimate reason to RA a thread? Because that's what my gut is telling me to do.

Why is "running" lower-case but "Tiger" is capitalized?

This confuses and disturbs me
