Would appreciate some advice on a trip through LA...

have to drive through southern LA (ending up in Newton TX) and plan on bringing the cooler.
Im familiar with the wonderful Boudin in Scott, but I wanted to stock up on andouille and other smoked meats.
I need to make in a couple of weeks. Thinking of starting in Laplace and have several route destinations from there, but what are the 'cant miss' stops along that route? Andouille trail has been my guide so far.
Also -- does anyone have experience with the Andouille festival in laplace held in Oct? LINK /
worth the visit from a food perspective? TIA!

Just LaPlace, Scott and Iowa stops should fill your cooler nicely and you wouldnt have to get far off the interstate.

Head to Ville Platte and stop at Teet's.
Bring a larger cooler.

IF you go through Port Barre stop at Bourque's and get some of the jalapeno sausage bread.

I second the vote for the Best Stop in Scott
besides boudin, stock up on their Tasso and I also like their cajun seasoning brand. I bought a large sharker of the regular and the garlic flavor and I like it.

If you are up on Hwy 190 going to Port Barre, you can stop in Krotz Springs at Billy's Boudin. Boudin there is solid, but the Boudin Balls with pepper jack is awesome.

IMO, no need to travel via 190 since Billy's, Kartchners, and Bourques all have stores in Laffy now. All within minutes of Don's, NuNu's, Johnsons, Best Stop, etc ...

Oh you're right Got Blaze. I remember seeing that last time I ordered from the website.
So yeah OP could go to Lafayette/Scott
-Smoked Boudin and Tasso at Best Stop
-Boudin Balls with pepper jack at Billys
As far as sausage, I'm not sure having never had anything from NuNus, Don's etc. I will say I wasn't crazy with the pork sausage at Billy's. It was too fatty or greasy.

Don't spend it all in one place.
Since you're traveling east-to-west, my recommendation would be to tread lightly among the River Parishes and save lots of space for Exits 97 (Scott) and 44 (Iowa).

OP should go to Rabideauxs in Iowa .... amazing plate lunches and the fried catfish filets are the size of a 12EE shoe sole.

As much as it pains me to say this as a lifelong Best Stop supporter, I've found that since they've switched to their mass-production outfit their smoked meat offerings are no where near as good as they used to be. Their boudin is still solid though.
I picked up a bunch of sausage/tasso/andouille from Teets in Ville Platte and it's noticeably better.

Stop by Steamboat Bills before you get on I10 bridge in Lake Charles.
Their crawfish pistolettes are amazing.

Recently on a road trip, I swung by Teet’s after hearing so many people on this board brag about it. I’m not sure if it’s because none of us grew up on it, but none of my kids or wife liked it. They said it was way too much smoke flavor. I didn’t find it unenjoyable the way they did, but I still prefer the local sausages I grew up on in the river parishes.

Best stop in my opinion has the best andouille. Made for the Cajuns who used to go before the tourists found it. Their boudin and cracklings and andouille and beef tongue remains true.
