Yeah, he's a super liberal commie. He is a nice guy in person to be honest, I've met him a few times and my chef friend who is fairly conservative for the industry likes him.

But the guy is an unabashed fake communist.

Pretty good food though. I liked Hungry Eyes when I went recently

I find his and the restaurant’s whole shtick pretty dumb

It's somewhat a proven track in the food world though. If you are outlandishly over the top for the "oppressed" then you get big time play by media, critics, magazines, etc... They highlight those who are the most outspoken so that they can funnel mouths to those locations in an effort to tell themselves they are making a better world and "food scene"

The attempted cancellation of him during the whole BLM stuff was hilarious to me, given how over the top left wing he is. It doesn't matter how much you agree with them, you can always be in the crosshairs yourself.

I do think most of what he does is basically for marketing and it works for him.

His restaurant was widely popular long before anything BLM.

My personal experience:

Service = Awful
Beer = Warm
Food = Over rated AF
Price = This sealed the deal. Expensive for portions and quality of food.

I have never been back. One and done.

Also the pic LL posted mentioned every buzzword and movement possible,

If I were to make a parody of the modern industry worker, T&W staff and aesthetics would be it. You wouldn't need to change a thing.

The food is pretty good and it is a well-run operation if you can get past all the pretentious hipsterism

I had drinks at the bar and the goofy artichokes on the half shell dish. It was neat enough, but hard to figure how it's sustainable in the current incarnation (but I've always felt that way about T&W as well - so there's that). Said hi to Hereford on the way out (he was waking a dog outside the place when we left).

Fake communist seems to be a good description.

One thing is for certain, the dude knows how to get national press and publicity.

Bruh, the first words of his spiel is "black lives matter". Can you name a more racist group nowadays?

Hezbollah.

Maybe CCP.

This dude isn't hurting a bit by keeping the people he sees as racist away.

100%

he posts a bunch of commie memes...

But keeps opening restaurants and going on national shows to promote his businesses and cook books etc and lives in a nice neighborhood and makes a bunch of money.

if it works and makes him money (it does), then it was a brilliant idea

They are different kinds of places IMO. Stein's is more pure deli and sandwich's, T&TW is more elevated nostalgic food. I like them both a lot but for different things.

In New Orleans, you have to ignore the politics or cook from home. Most of them align together

Sure, until they force their politics upon you. That's when the line is crossed. I fully accept that most of the places are owned and ran by those politically unaligned with me, and I am ok with that. The moment they actively politicize their establishment though is when the problems begin.

These threads are always a great opportunity to see chuds from North La beat their chest about how they will never step foot in a restaurant that they wouldn't have gone to in the first place.

Well, in his manifesto he tells me not to eat there, so I won't. There are other places to eat a sandwich.

Is this the chode that acted like putting chips on a sandwich was some kind of culinary breakthrough?
