Nearly as horrible as Budweiser.

You should leave again. You were a better poster when you were gone.

Can't give a reason, but I second your thought. American chocolate sucks.

Just a short return to cause some carnage. Don’t get your knickers in a twist.

When I was in elementary schools a classmate and his family would go skiing in Switzerland once a year and bring back Swiss chocolate for the whole class. It was amazing. That’s all I got

Switzerland gets the Bronze medal for chocolate.
Silver to Belgium. Gold of course for Great Britain.

So you "come back" with less than 200 posts and start multiple shitty threads? Got it.

Same reason there is horrible chocolate in Europe, there is a market for cheap stuff. You can get better quality on both continents.

for the same reasons
Major consolidation in the candy industry following WWII led to a lack of consumer choice (only like 2 or 3 major brands). Those brands then, over time, implemented cost savings measures at the expense of quality, but consumers had few, if any choices, so they simply adapted to the inferior product. The same thing happened with coffee up until companies like Starbucks changed the public perception of what coffee is supposed to taste like. The same thing happened with the craft beer movement, and is now slowly happening with chocolate. People who travel abroad discovered what chocolate should taste like and small chocolate companies trying to replicate that product are etching away market share from the big cocoa cartel.

If you're going to pretend to be British you should probably travel abroad first
British chocolate trolling? WTF?

You mean the major manufacturers like Hershey? Yeah it's poop.
But the US is filled with a huge amount of artisans who over the past 20 years have taken chocolate bars to a new level.
Now bonbons/truffles...yeah, they aren't very good in the US.
WTF...british chocolate? No. The French make the best chocolates...French speaking Swiss, the french speaking Belgians, and the French speaking French.
But, American Brownies are still the GOAT. They are becoming pretty popular here, and everyone always asks me to give them a recipe.

It's not. Plenty of good chocolatiers in America. Stop eating Nestle or Snickers and thinking "this is the best America has to offer".
French Broad Chocolates out of Asheville, NC is really good. Calandro's has a whole shelf next to their vintage candy of craft chocolates. I can't remember the name, but i always have a stick of one brand in my fridge.

i honestly dont look at where chocolate is made. i know godiva is yummy and i usually go for the 'adult chocolate' section at walgreens with all the dark chocolate bars and random shite like cranberries and broken glass in it.

Most Walgreens and many other stores sell Ritter Sport bars (German chocolate), and Toblerone (Swiss) are easily found, as are the Guylian and a couple other mass market Belgian brands.
Plenty of gross Brit chocolate abounds: those dank Scottish macaroon bars with the potato starch fondant filling and coconut dust exterior, the terrible Crunchie bar.....
For my money, I’ll take French chocolates any day. You can keep the mass produced stuff, or the pretending to be Euro Godiva with the too thick couverture, or the wanna be local stuff that’s designed to ship. I want one (or two, or three) of Alain Ducasse’s pistachio praline bars, or his mendiants with almonds, figs, and candied orange peel. Sadly, Ducasse doesn’t ship to the US.
