Once the weather turns chilly, it's soup/gumbo season. I love soups, so any meal or late night snack could be a soup. My Italian mother always had a pot of soup on the stove to feed a bunch of kids. Pasta was always an ingredient.

My great grandfather reportedly used to say:”soup is for sick people” and would never eat it.
He lived to just short of 101 and when he was in his mid 80’s he and my grandfather walked the 2.5 miles to town to get his last tooth pulled then walked the whole way home, in mid July. Grandad said he tried to joke about finally eating soup on the walk back but great grandfather was having no part in it. Said he ate fried round steak that night and had no false teeth at all.
Soups are not a breakfast thing for reasons.

Gumbo or stews are just a variation of soups

I had mei ayam (pronounced me I am) every morning for breakfast in Indonesia and really miss it.

My dad always said, "You kids better eat all of it, or we will have it for breakfast tomorrow."
We never did.
Do you know there is a butt floating on top of your soup?

Looks like a bust to me

I would probably scarf down a bowl of egg drop soup with crumbled bacon or sausage, cheese, avocado and maybe a biscuit to dip or crumble.
That gives me an idea….

I can, and will, eat both pho and miso for breakfast. Hell, I've done ramen as well when I was hung over and wanted a bit more heartiness. The giant "American breakfast" is mostly the result of marketing propaganda.

Perhaps in the minority,
but count me in, man, I’ll eat breakfast soup with ya

I'm wondering if creamy grits with white sausage gravy and bits of fried and scrambled egg and bacon in it would count count as a breakfast soup.
If people around the world eat soup for breakfast why can't we?

When I was in high school, I went with a priest weekly to serve Mass at a “home for wayward girls”. The nuns served us a big breakfast after. The first time I went, the first course was a steaming hot bowl of split pea soup. I don’t think I had ever even seen SPS before, and it didn’t look like something I wanted to eat. So as not to be impolite, I decided to “offer it up”, and ate it anyway.
I acquired quite a taste for SPS; and now, all these long years later, I eat it regularly.
By the way, remembering back, that was the most popular I have ever been with girls (or later, women), since they rarely got to interact with boys their own age there.

Most Asian countries have some form of soup for breakfast like Pho, congee, seolleongtang, etc.

I could imagine a nice potato soup garnished with bacon and cheese would be nice in the morning.

I suppose you could serve a Bloody Mary in a bowl.

Any time I get a ham bone I make split pea soup. And the day after, when it's acquired that sufficient pease porridge consistency...delectable

Where's the breakfast soup?
And don't get me started on cereal being a soup.
Let me debunk your first rebuttal.
"Cereal isnt in a broth"
So what is a broth? A liquid that takes up the flavor of something that's "cooked" in it. Cooked doesnt have to be heat, it could just be soaked. So the milk is the broth of the cereal that is in it. Do not even try to tell me your mild doesnt take up the flavor of the cereal. Do you even Cinnamon Toast Crunch slurp?

Gumbo or stews are just a variation of soups
if you try to lump them all as soups? i guess you can but thats just like lumping soup in with sandwiches because its just "food" right?
