can't stop staring at that plate...
The plate itself, or the stuff on top of it?

Is it a good stare or a bad stare?

Since you're talking these and "Old School", Mama had ham roll ups on the dinner table Sunday. Cheap ham covered w/ cream cheese and green onion, rolled, stuck crossways with toothpicks and cut into bite sized pieces.. I can't post photos from here but you probably know what I'm talking about. Again, if Mama took the time to make 'em, you ate 'em!

Grandmother in Abbeville made those. And also the best cabbage rolls ever invented. The best thing she made that you never see anymore is crawfish bisque. Very labor intensive but sonofabitch it was good.

I think that was more of a 90's thing. The pears are more 70's - 80's.

They were on our table well before the 90's. Maybe we were trend setters...I thought we were just poor.

Speaking from experience, they were definitely 50's & 60's.
Things were put on a plate, I had the option of eating what was on that plate or NOT. Being a growing boy, with lots of farm chores, I chose to eat.. Cleaning stalls the next morning before daylight and breakfast was a bish on an empty stomach.

I had those for the first time a out 8 years ago at a friends house for Easter dinner. His in laws came over and they made them, family tradition. I started asking other friends and their families made them as well. The ones I had were with mayo instead of cottage cheese. They actually weren't bad
