I had a serious accident a few months ago, my b'day is coming up and going out is not an option. So we're going to dine at home with friends, sparing no expense on ingredients, it will still likely be less than half the cost of going out. I want to have crabmeat imperial, that was a something my mother would make for my b'day as a kid.
I've seen prices range from $35-$60 lb. but not sure who has the best quality, if you have a suggestion, I'm all ears.

Ever considered buying a couple snow crab leg clusters & picking the meat out?
Unfortunately, getting domestic blue crab meat is getting harder where I'm at and this has been my solution as I refuse to buy the imported blue swimming crab B.S.
Snow crab makes a decent substitute but still not as good as blue crab.

You want crab imperial, go Louisiana crab, not Alaska crab. Most good local grocers will have crab meat. Just buy lump crabmeat. The crabs are harvested in the water, it’s not like they are farm raised with some tasting better than others.

Where you at? I got a pound for $30 at the Westwego shrimp lot a couple of weeks ago.

Are you near Bucktown? Schaefer was advertising boiled crabs for very cheap recently. Might translate to an ok price on picked meat.

I’ve really never heard of someone substituting snow crab meat for blue crab.
Also keep in mind that snocrab prices are about to go up by a lot. Seems as if they are closing most of the fisheries for the season

I saw some at Dorignac’s last week. It was about $45/lb.

There is a factory in Des Allemands that has it in the 20’s

Go to Crepe Nanou and order a bunch of crabmeat crepes to go. They load those things down with crab meat and you won't have to cook.

You got a name for this place? Sell to public? TIA

Thanks for the help, I'm in BR, so there are some options. I used to buy bulk catfish from the Fonseca's in Des Allemands, I would not mind a little trip there if I can get a deal.

Several years ago, I bought some nice jumbo lump at Calvin's. It was from Mobile and very fresh.
Is Heads and Tails still selling fresh seafood? We used to get it there from time to time. I think I read they were closing the restaurant. Not sure about the seafood store.
