I”ll take baby Saz over WSR every day of the week

At Costco EHT small batch was $40, ER was $27 and bookers was $50. The EHT and Bookers would sit there for weeks. The eagle rare got scooped up but they restocked regularly. I made plenty of ER and cokes back in the day.

It's amazing the hype WSR gets here. It's a shelf turd in Houston.
I agree. It shows how easily brainwashed some people are to believe something is more than what it is. I'll take EC or BT all day before I even get a WSR. So many people are spending hundreds more on bourbon that is just ok because the masses say they all want it. But then again when you can raffle off a WSR for $80 on Facebook I guess the blame should be placed on those who are buying the chances to win the bottle and not the person selling it. Seems like alot of trouble to me to make $50-$60 but I guess it is a nice extra source of cash for a hustler.

It's all about the social media likes and acceptance. We live in an artificial world right now, and it does not appear to be getting any better. Bourbon is to 2021 what avocado toast was to 2015. Don't worry; a new trend will pop up at some point, but who knows when that will be. The thing that will always remain though is that people will do whatever it takes to be part of the online in-crowd. Sad

We have been saying that for 10 years and it has only gotten worse

It seens like at some point distilares will be able to catch up to demand. When it started booming 10 years ago I doubt they started laying down more barrels. Who knows... part of me thinks the industy doesn't want to increase production much to keep the hype train going.

Will the bourbon bubble ever pop or just accept this as the norm?
As much as people complain about it, most love it J

Not to be nitpicky, but I would say the problem is more recently within the last 4-5 years. 10yrs ago I was buying whatever I wanted, because everything was still on the shelves. About 5yrs ago is when BT was not being restocked on the shelves, and I was forced to find alternate go to bottles. Now even those are impossible to find within the last 2-3 years, and since COVID started the problem has grown substantially.
My point is that we are still only a few years into this trend, and currently it is in a parabolic explosion. It's still young. While I don't think it will ever cool off to where it was in the Aughts, I do think we will eventually settle down to where it was in the late 10's. The instagramers will move on to something else, but the new bloods who genuinely like and appreciate it are here to stay.

The distilleries are trying to catch up. Many are spending major capital money to increase production. Buffalo Trace has spent something like $1.2 billion.
There are currently almost 11 million barrels aging in Kentucky alone. But it takes years for those barrels to mature.
It is hard to estimate demand 6-10 years out, spend a lot of money on distillate and barrels and then just let it sit.

I mean some do seem to enjoy the hunt but to me they're no better than the beanie baby moms

There's a guy here in Lafayette that goes around and buys every desirable barrel pick (sometimes cases) and puts them online for sale immediately.
I'm not even convinced that he drinks.

Yeah, he's a douche. One of my buddies will just post laughing emoji's on his secondary posts and he gets all butthurt.

Kentucky produced about 450,000 barrels in 2000. Today it is close to 2,000,000.

According to Fred Minnick, it was close to 2.5 million barrels last year.
