Been awhile on posting for me but this one deserved it. Wife and I spent a few days downtown Louisville for the first time ever. Had a blast. Fortunately our hotel was across the street from Old Forester so every morning shortly after opening, we’d start our day there by walking into the gift shop to see what the allocated release for the day was. Having the wife with me, one day I was able to buy two 1924’s and one day, two of these wonderful creations. This is the first year that they released a President’s Choice Rye. They had announced an available for purchase day at the distillery back on Father’s Day Weekend. I saw a video of someone there with hundreds in line. This one was unannounced that I just happen to walk in to. What a solid pour. Very deep in character and interestingly changing as it sits in the glass flavor wise.

Kinda new to this thread but I’m a long time collector. Just got my most recent haul in yesterday. Obviously I won’t be popping any of these, I think peerless is my next up for a drinker. Love scrolling back through this thread though, some of you boys are popping some good ones.

Maybe the BTACs if I wind up with duplicates but the ones on the left are from 1960, 83, and 94. Those go in the cabinet and sit unless it’s for a very special occasion. I don’t really view them as true alternative investments but it’s a little side hobby like someone would think of day trading for fun. I get that whiskey is meant to be drank, and I drink plenty of it, but the collecting or hunting for old/rare bottles is part of the fun. If I can pass down a valuable collection to my kids then that’s even better.

If posting a couple dusties counts as showing off, then maybe the problem isn’t my bottles, it’s your shelf.

I figured a whiskey thread might be geared towards collecting as well as drinking but I’ll be sure to stick to dailies if that makes you feel more comfortable.

I only collect consumables that get better with age.

This is like not fricking your wife so she is in good shape for the next guy.

If you don’t end up with duplicates you’re just gonna stare at them?

If you look through the thread many people drink “good” whiskey, and not just shelf pours.

Of course, and I drink plenty of really good bottles. I just accumulate lots of rare ones so that I can trade, resell, let them appreciate, etc while still being able to always have something nice to crack open when I want. Some bottles are off limits for the most part but most aren’t.

This is a drinking thread. You, sir, are the reason we can’t drink great whiskey for a reasonable price.

BTAC’s can be had on a regular basis if you are willing to pay. I can understand not opening the older bottles but open the fricking BTACs.

Also

That older juice is really unique and not like anything you can sip on now. Unless you paid a fortune for them I’d think you would enjoy the experience.
