re: Which, if any, New Orleans Restaurants would warrant a Michelin Star?

Wow...there is a ton of misunderstanding about michelin in this thread. In the last 5 years I habe eaten at about 20 or so michelin starred restaurants in 6 different countries.
Please believe when I say there are at least 15-20 that would have at least a star in nola. I would maybe 4-5 2 stars...no 3 stars though. San fran proper doesnt have a 3 star...they depend on wine country for their 3 starred restaurants.
danji...a korean one star in nyc that I have been to twice in two years is nothing special...wouldnt be a top 30 in nola. Eleven madison park in nyc blows out any nola restaurant on the other hand.

How many on here have actually been to several starred restaurants?
There are a couple on here that sound like they are just guessing that nola wouldnt have any or just a couple...thats a joke. Dont mean to be harsh, but no...just no.
michelin is having trouble selling guides in america.
I am hoping they re-think america and attack it with a city-centered regional focus much like the bay area guide.

Stella was the best restaurant I've been to in New Orleans followed by August.

$850 for two...worth every penny.
We closed the place down with chef and the sommelier at our table with cognac. I tried to pick their brains about nyc hidden gems...all they wanted to talk about was nola restaurants and tales of the cocktail. The chef daid nola was the second best food city in america....the sommelier said third behind san fran...but he added we were number one for cocktails.
This topped my 21st bday at galatoires where leann rymes sang to me...she was hot back then.

I'm just sort of looking at how they dole these out on a per capita type basis. If New York has like 40 one stars, New Orleans wouldn't have 20. Maybe more than one or two, but probably no more than 5 or 6.
That's not saying there aren't 10-15 other comparable type places here that might be as deserving as the places that would get one. Just like there's probably 50-60 more in New York that one could reasonably argue are as good as places with a star.

i honestly think roberta's is on these list b/c it's in the hood of brooklyn, makes going kind of an adventure like you are going into the unknown. there's a pok pok now in brooklyn too, might as well check that out while your over there.
i personally like all the spots in carol gardens, prime meats, buttermilk channel, smiths, all good food and i love the neighbhorhood.

Its not necessarily per cap...yountville and monaco have a huge number for how small they are.
nyc has 48 one stars as of 2012...my 2013 is in the mail as of yesterday.
in fact, the only thing I have noticed as far as biased reviews is that france is very much loved...if you compared michelin france and italy fir instance you would think there is a huge gap between the two.

Those look good...that whole walk from dumbo to their is safe?
Posted on 9/4/13 at 11:13 pm to Tiger Attorney
Dumbo to carol gardens is fine that whole area is real nice, take a car service to Roberta's unless you feeling adventures and want to take the subway.

Also, yes many people don't get that many good restaurants get one star.
link to Michelin guide Nwy York and San fran
First off they only have two or three areas that they cover in the US, it's mainly a French travel guide.
Three star is roughly the same as the AAA five diamond.
Rare (only 15 in the US I think)
And that is from a US guide.
Michelin Stars.. Peter Luger's has one star, a lot of NOLA restaurants out service Luger's

I thought the L line was safe in brooklyn now...or is it just bedford and the next stop or two
Posted on 9/4/13 at 11:24 pm to Tiger Attorney
The L is Williamsburg and its fine unless you go way into brooklyn on it, you can take the F train from Dumbo into carrol gardens, get off on smith street, or bergan, it's just 2-3 stops from dumbo, momofricko milk bar is right there too when you get off.
carol gardens is on the south side, williamsburg is on the norh with dumbo kinda there in the middle. just look at a google map it breaks down the hood's. just tell the cab you want to go to smith street or court street in carol gardens. that'll get you there.

BTW, I'd skip Lupa on your NY visit and go to L'artusi, dell'anima, or Lincoln instead. Also, if you've not been to Del Posto, it's fantastic.

I've never been to any starred resturants. I just wanted to point out that Lee Ann Rhymes has never been remotely hot. Don't meaan to be harsh, but no. She can sing, and I'm sure it was cool having her croon happy birthday at your table. But she has never sniffed hotness, despite her cavernous nostrils. On her best day she looked like the flying dog thing on Never Ending Story. Carry on.

She went through a phase when she was magnificently trashy hot. You must have missed it.
