What's the consensus on Southern Craft in BR?

Personally I think they're getting left behind. I tried their experimental at the Hop Festival this past weekend and it was alright, but I don't feel like they're evolving like everyone else locally is.

Not a fan, they have so much meh. When I go to the store I don't even consider them because of everything else on the shelf and same with at a restaurant.

Everything I've had on draft at bars/restaurants and from cans at stores has been mediocre to bad. You will hear stories of them having a good batch of something available at the brewery, but I'm skeptical.

They actually make Tin Roof look better by comparison.

Group of really good guys, but their beer is not exceptional. I really wish they would make a juicy IPA/DIPA. Clearly it sells: Parish has 4-5 variants of same brew, Tin Roof revamped VooDoo & did well w JuJu, Gnarley w Jucifer, Great Raft w G&G, Urban even a bit w Holy Roller.

Southern Craft & Red River are very similiar in the respect of great guys - but unwilling (I guess unwilling?) to give the market what it wants. Smart guys, I know they can see it.

I’m not big on Stouts/Porters but their brew w Cafeciteaux is really good, per my dark beer drinking friends.

This. I know you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a hazy ipa in Louisiana now, but if they took some time, and focused on making a really good one, that had tons of aroma/flavor, then i think they could start a small following. I understand not wanting to jump on a bandwagon, but let's face it, juice sells. Even shitty ones. So if they could make a great one, then i think they could grow a following. That's the great thing about small breweries. You are pretty flexible in what you can do.

I drink a fair amount of Louisiana beer, but have never even bothered to try Southern Craft.

First, is it even distro'd in the New Orleans area? Second, the competition is so good you're going to have to build some demand to keep up with what else is around there.

Nah I'd argue Tin Roof is doing a good job right now. Voodoo stays in my lineup of brews to buy locally and their recent IIPA JuJu (now called something else, I forget) was very good when I had it. And River Rose was alright as well.

Looking forward to Rally Cap that'll be opening in BR soon.

They hired new brewermasters

Tin Roof hired Michael Till of Rogue in Oregon as head brewer and Robbie Welborn of Ska Brewing Company in Colorado as head cellarman

And they hired Jacob Talley as CEO last fall/winter. He gets it and has been a big part of the improvement.

And Southern Craft is just not brewing good beers.
