Or what do you want to grow?
Seems the focus should be usefulness (like how often you would use) and relative ease of growth and maintenance. Plus if it’s hard to find in stores.
I have:
Green onions
Sweet mint
Cilantro
Thai basil
Thinking of adding a few more.

Green onions
Rosemary
Sage
Spearmint
Peppermint

All of them grow like weeds. And about the only things the deer don’t eat other than gardenias and lavender.

Lavender and Rosemary i have seem kill proof at this point.
Green onions
Parsley
Cilantro
Thyme
Dill

my 3 mints died in the cold. I took them in on two occassions, but was out of town the last time a freeze came through and they weren't watered, so they all look terrible now. They are in hanging baskets.
Spearmint
Mojito Mint
Orange Mint
The Spearmint seems to want to come back. The other two look done.

I've never had good luck with Basil.
I do have everything in pots though, not in the ground.

Same here. I have parsley, lavender, and dill growing after the freeze. I probably should've brought them indoors.

Basil seems easy. I bought a bunch of seeds I want to try out soon.
