Easy for me. We have young kids and don't spend many evenings out of the house. The handful of times a year that we go out and splurge on "lavish" dinners whether it be as a couple or with a group of friends is well worth it. It's an escape from the day to day doldrums and a chance to unwind.

Chef tasting menus are often like that. It's not hard to spend $100-150 per person. If they offer wine/drink pairings push that to more like $200/ea. If it's a nice sushi omakase prices only go up. There's one in Austin that's more like $300/ea plus drinks.
Took Mrs Perple to the TENN game. Add up flights, airbnb, food for Fri/Sat/Sun plus tickets and it wasn't a cheap weekend (didn't do that math since the game was complete dog shite).
To answer the OP, over $150/ea for me is lavish. $100/ea isn't hard to hit with a couple drinks.

For me that isn’t necessarily “lavish” but spending more than normal. So like $100-150 a person would be an occasion like you described.
That said, my boyfriend has talked about getting me the 10 ounce Japanese Grade A-5 Waygu at a local steakhouse when I get my full licensure next year. Right now that steak is $248 by itself. That would be lavish to me with side and drinks included pushing it well over $300 for me alone.

Most definitely. It's amazing how much money the wife and I save on eating out since I quit drinking a couple of years ago. On average our bills are $50-100 cheaper without me drinking (she's not a big drinker and may have 1 cocktail on occasion).
As for the OP's question- I'd say over $250 starts to get into the lavish realm for me. Only once have we spent more that $500 for a meal and that was at Le Bernardain for their tasting menu (with wine parings back when I drank). It was expensive as shite, but it was definitely an "experience" more than a meal.

My wife and I took my daughter and SIL to an upscale lodge recently. It featured prix fixe menu (latin for "this is an armed robbery"). We had a few drinks before the meal and a bottle of wine with the meal. I got the bill, the tip was already added in - total $780.00. That, my friends, was a lavish meal.

$300 is my "let's remember this one" threshold. I've had meals for less that I would consider lavish too. Partly depends on the booze bill.

Spent $650 for two at the Pearl River Resort in Philadelphia, Mississippi back in 2010.
Obviously the menu items were overpriced but I was trying to lock down my girlfriend at the time.
It worked. We got married 6 months later.

I think around $300 is probably the most I've ever spent. I've been on business dinners that were thousands but I wasn't paying either. A meal just isn't worth that to me personally.

Lavish for two? Depends on location, but as a middle of the road, probably about $300. But there's lavish, and then there's lavish, and I've spent far more than that for two

Most I’ve ever spent was at Melting Pot. Maybe when I have more money I can do a Michelin restaurant.
