Potato stew

I loved her red beans and rice but my favorite was when she made egg rolls.

My grandma who always lived within walking distance made roast beef ever Thursday night. Her roast beef with mashed potatoes is probably my favorite meal of all times

Miss her macaroni salad. It was the absolute best.

Almost every Sunday we had roast beef w/ rice and gravy, peas or butter beans, and broccoli w/ hollandaise.

Mom did not really do a great job at home style cooking. She grew up in a household where maids cooked, and my grandmother was a terrible cook. But when Mom wanted to cook something fancy with a recipe, she was great. My favorite was duck a l'orange.

Mom wasn't a great cook but her potato salad & vanilla pudding was outstanding. My favorite smell was coming in the door on a cold day after football practice and smelling biscuits & gravy with fried eggs. Miss you Mom

Like a few others have said, my Mom isn't a great cook. Her mother and father both were, but she never really inherited that from them. She does casseroles pretty well, but outside of that, she mainly let my Dad, and later me, do the cooking. I learned way more about cooking from him. He still cooks for us occasionally, but most of our meals together when he's in town is take out or he lets either me or my brother in law grill for us. He said his time is better spent playing with his grandkids than manning the kitchen.

As far as meals, I miss my Granny's biscuits, fried pork chops, fried okra, and sweet potatoes. She also made fried salmon patties that were great, and none of us grandkids, despite the recipe, can get them just like she made them.

On the other side of the family, my great aunt made the best chicken and dumplings from scratch. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, my grandmother, my aunt, and my great aunt all made what they were best at, and it was always a good home cooked southern meal.

This is such a tough one! Off the top of my head, her meatloaf or her Thanksgiving stuffing.

Also, she always goes crazy making all kinds of fudge and cookies and candies around Christmas… while I’m not a big sweets person, those particular sweets are associated with fond memories and just seem to taste better than all others.

My grandmother used to cook for all the farmhands and I remember everything being good. But the things I remember being especially good (in my mind only probably) was when I would bring her a mess of frogs or squirrels. I would show up at here house with stuff I had been hunting and she would act so excited. She would make squirrel dumplings or cook frog legs and biscuits and I remember them being the best things ever.
On a side note my dad would talk about when Jerry Clower was a sales rep for Mississippi Chemical and every time he showed up at our place it just so happened to be at lunch time and he would sit around the table telling some kind of crazy story. So he must have thought she was a pretty good cook also. Would really liked to remember some of those tales.
