The Dave’s killer bread recipe is 100% Dave Dahl. He turned his life around after prison, created the new recipes, and took the “family business“ to new heights. It was sold to Flowers a few yrs back.

Bunny plantation growing up.
I very rarely make sandwiches at home nowadays so hardly ever buy loaves.
I'm addicted to King's Hawaiian sweet rolls though. I eat a few almost every day.

Evangeline Maid, and it ain’t close. None of the other breads here in Houston area compare. We always haul loaves of EM back home every time we go to Louisiana. Stores well in the freezer.

If it’s good enough for Archibald’s, it’s good enough for me.

It was Bunny bread when we lived in LA. Can't buy it in TX. The closest I can find to Bunny is Natures Own Butterbread

I like Dave’s but it’s in a long list that contains canola oil so I buy Martin’s.

Every time we froze a loaf of bread whether it was Evangeline Maid or Holsum back home It always had a hard edge and a soft mushy edge. I hated when mom did that. What caused it to do that?

My personal experience is if you open the bag of bread before it's fully thawed, then the slices will have that hard edge.
Take it out the freezer and keep it on the counter a full 24 hours before opening. I've found when I've done that, and the twist tie is on tightly, the slices come out fluffy.
