Growing up, my family was definitely Team Cake with regards to holiday desserts, so we didn't eat a lot of pie. Most of the time we had pie it was usually some type of fruit pie (apple, cherry, peach), and I didn't really discover many types of sugar pies, cream pies, and custard pies until later in life. I don't think I even tried pumpkin pie until my late teens.

I really prefer pies like coconut cream pie, buttermilk pie, pecan pie, sugar pie, etc. My wife is a great baker and recently discovered Erin Mcdowell on YouTube, and she's been on a pie-making kick lately. Pie lovers, I beg your forgiveness for my ignorance. I am converted!

There are so many delicious pies that I'm just learning about because of my wife's baking. She's been giving most of them away, but once a week she bakes a different pie for us that we usually share with our neighbors. This weekend Blueberry Swamp Pie is on the menu.

What are some of your favorites? How about some great lesser-known pies?

Lemon ice box and custard probably.

Although a Boston Cream Pie is amazing

As far as lesser known, I’d go with rhubarb pie

There's a pie place down the street from me that does a seasonal eggnog pie on a graham cracker crust and it's the best pie I've ever had in my life.

Otherwise, I love apple pie a la mode, and pumpkin is a winner as well.

If I had to chose one, pecan pie but I'd love to have my Mawmaw's homemade chocolate and lemon ice box pies again. They were magical.

I know pecan pie has made its way around the country, but are buttermilk, chess, etc. appreciated all over? My pie awakening began with custard/sugar pies.

Pecan is my favorite and my go to. I did have a German Chocolate pie one time that was awesome. I guess I need to find a good recipe for that.

It was AMAZING. This thread gave me an envie so I just tried to order it and they're not offering that one right now

We are leaving town in a week for the holidays so it looks like I won't get my eggnog pie this year.

Love a good pecan pie, but not every day.

One of my nephews is married to a young lady who makes the absolute best pecan pie I've ever eaten and I look forward to parties where she brings one or two.

Yeah, these two along with chocolate pie are my favorites.

Strawberry rhubarb is a good one I don't see around enough.

My Mawmaw’s pecan pie is number one by a mile. Coming in a distant second, but still very delicious is my wife’s maternal grandmother’s (also Mawmaw) coconut cream pie.
