who the hell down voted my meme?

this guy is trolling everyone. He claims to have eaten at virtually every restaurant in NOLA and Chicago yet now he only spends 20 bucks a week on food?

Pick up the cheapest rice steamer at Walmart. Make a trip to your local Asian grocery store. It's a small investment, but you'll be reaping the benefits for a looong time. Rice goes with anything. A sack of potatoes isn't a bad investment either.

Today I had Special K and skim milk (.25 and .20 respectively) for breakfast. I drank four glasses of tap water for lunch. For dinner I had leftover lentil beans which I made with a whole chicken I bought on sale for $3.44. I also made a chicken burrito. Lots of leftovers. About 65 cents for dinner. I made country tyme lemonade also on sale (.10) and had 3 more glasses of tap water before a cup of hot tea for bed(.05).

I will chronicle over the next week how you can eat well, healthily, and yummily for less than $20 a week. Today I had Special K and skim milk (.25 and .20 respectively) for breakfast. Monday total 2000 cal $1.25 On pace for a $8.75 week

So far today:

Same breakfast (.50ish)
1/4 a can of pickled beets (.18)
1/40 bottle of Caesar dressing (.05)
Planning on eating lentils for dinner again.

Should get under $1.25 again

My burrito:

So I slow roasted that entire chicken. Picked meat off the bones -- probably got about 2 lbs or so of meat. Marinated cooked meat with a can of off brand spicy tomatoes. Have enough for about 8 meals (.50/ meal).

I used the bones for a stock and then cooked lentils in that stock (1.50 for 7 meals).

The beets are very tangy already so I use minimal dressing. I am probably going to get more than 40 servings out of this bottle.

Your $.18 on a quarter can of pickled beets is just not tasty, even w/the caesar dressing. $.18 could have bought you a quarter can of chickpeas...or had a quarter can of Campbell's pork-n-beans and saved five and a half cents more. Slacker. if you're gonna pinch a penny, pinch it hard.

I loved pickled beets, but I also like your suggestion. I'm not saying mine is the only way. I like variety too.

I am trying to save as much money as I can. I figure the less I spend on myself the more I can share with others. Much the same thought as the monastics who grew their own vegetables and ate minimally. Let's share.
