The recently closed Best Buy at 3780 Veterans Blvd. won’t be sitting empty for long. According to a permit filing national wine, beer & spirits retailer Total Wine & More will be opening their first Louisiana store at the former Circuit City turned Best Buy.

Total Wine & More stores typically offer over 8,000 wines, 3,000 types of spirits and 2,500 beers. The Metairie store is also expected to feature a humidor. The chain is known for its in-store samplings and educational seminars.

I didn’t even realize they closed that store. Is this place legit or is it going to be filled with InBev offerings?

The selection is amazing.

Whole shelves of Pappy.

Well maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but it is a great store.

It’s better than Spec’s in Houston.

Great News!

The one that I frequented regularly in Charlotte has the best beer selection in the city. They had converted 4-5 aisles of the store to beer, while still having more wine than any place I'd ever seen.

That is saying something. If true, I'll have to check it out.

Get ready for:

-Uninformed "wine experts" pushing shitty wine because it's exclusive to Total wine and they make 40-50% margin or more on them.

-Extreme loss leading on popular national wine/liquor brands forcing local mom and pops to match the price or lose business. Only problem is total wine can afford to lose/make shite margin. The only one who can really match them in Texas is HEB.

-Craft beer selection barely better than a local big box grocery store, and not better than speciality stores or places like CBD or uptown rouses or whole foods.

If you only look at what you pay and not the effect it has on other businesses in the area, it's a great store. The whole picture though will show you it's much like Walmart moving in and killing local businesses.

This is what I was thinking the selection would be like.

I'm not sure it's "better" than Spec's but it's built in the same mindset as Spec's.

This is a game changer in Metairie... and will result in better selection and better prices for customers. And yes, will probably put some local liquor stores out of business.

I’m looking forward to checking it out, but I will probably still do most of my wine shopping at Martins

This isn't the case in Fort Worth. Much better selection than Central Market and on par or better than Specs.

That's probably because you live in a shitty town like Dallas. Sugar Land and Houston Total Wines are legit for craft beer selection.

The ones in Santa Fe and Albuquerque are pretty awesome as well, definitely better and less expensive than Whole Foods. Carry a ton of local stuff.

That isn't miserable. It's the truth. I said it's a great store if cost is your only concern.

Interesting. In terms of local stuff, the central markets in Dallas have a much better selection. There's a specs and total right next to each other off 75 and the specs beer selection is much better overall.

If I want a new local option, it isn't in total or specs for that matter, it's at Central market, craft beer cellar, etc. Sure they'll get the national stuff like founders stuff, but hell, that's at kroger nowadays too.

I don't think the whole houston-dallas shithole stuff is necessary here. Alcohol is how I make a living, I'm just passing along my thoughts based on experience.
