Found it interesting the first time I traveled to Europe and I ask for water with a meal and the waiter replied "with gas or without?". I discovered a lot of European drink mineral water, thus the question.

Free refills are one of the things that make America great. Other countries you pay the equivalent of 4 USD for an 8 ounce can of Coke, turrrrible.
In the US, a restaurant that charges for fountain refills is a never again in my book.

I remember being asked "bubbles or flat" somewhere in Europe, and wondering how the hell water goes flat. Then they brought out the single serve bottled water :( for like 3 bucks or whatever. Beer was cheaper than water at a lot of places in Prague, I remember.

I'd be ok with this. Fatties should pay up if they want to suck down 1,000 calories of soda with their meal

I read an article the other day that said that free refills are coming to an end at most places that offer them.

Apparently the US and maybe Canada are the only countries that do free refills.

Europe and elsewhere doesn’t use Ice like we do either, many fast food places like drive throughs fill your cup 3/4 full of ice so a 20 oz drink is only 6 ounces of beverage. I’m not a soft drink drinker I rarely drink, but I do get tea and that’s a pet peeve of mine. I have to get a refill just to finish a meal with my kids because there’s too much ice.
I don’t have an issue with people charging per bottle of coke or can of whatever. Not offering a fountain drink doesn’t seem smart but it’s their choice.
As said, profit is one thing but the cost of a fountain soda is under 20 cents. I haven’t seen the math in awhile but the cost of the cup, ice, straw, etc used to be more than the syrup and carbonation? It does piss me off I paid $3.95 each for 3 of my kids to get a sprite at a restaurant.

Spotted the guy who lives off of crab grass and alkaline H2O. Do you even restaurant bro? The carbonated sugar water aint the only unhealthy thing going down your gullet, so you may as well enjoy some delightful fizz with your excess of salts and fats. It's called enjoying life in its little moments that it presents.

As an airline pilot I unfortunately have to eat more fast food than I’d like to. When I eat, I basically have to take a drink of liquid after every bite or two. My go-to at these places is a diet Dr. Pepper with no ice. It’s probably 2-3 times as much soft drink without the ice.

If I can have a glass of water when I’m done with my unsweetened ice tea, I’d be fine. Or I’d just pay for another iced tea.

The number of people in this thread that don't know zero calorie soda exists is kinda staggering.
