God speed. I like Boudin on a road trip but do find it can be problematic if you cannot find a clean restroom. I hope you have an idea of relief possibilities in case an emergency should hit.
I was going to ask him if he could also give us heads up on best bathrooms since he will visit at least 2 on that trek.

What are some qualities you look for in good boudin?

Thanks for the report. I always stop and get some at Janise’s whenever I have to go north

Just did my second taste test... there were some slight variations in the list, but the Top 4 remained the same. Bourque’s & Janise’s were the clear Top 2.

Love Bourqe’s...I’ll look for the opportunity to taste Jainse’s.

I always forget about Janise's. Been probably 8+ years since I've last had a link from them, so I need to make a point to give it another run.

Should rename good run not great but a good one.

This is an outstanding thread.
I assume all the boudins you purchased were heated and ready to go, and your wife just warmed them when you got home? Or were they cold when you bought them?
This thread is inspiring me to go on a run myself in a few weeks. Summer is coming up which means a lot of grilling by the pool, and one of my absolute favorite things to grill by the pool is boudin.
Thinking I might try to make a long day and hit 10-15 different spots, buy a pack at each spot, and fill up the freezer for summer. Then do a summer long taste testing!

Great thread! Think I'm going to take my dad to do something like this for his birthday.

Next time add rays in Opelousas on your list.

I had Ray’s this past fall. It was alright. Was just too far off my route this time.
I highly recommend to everyone to try one of these blind tests. You’ll be surprised. When I was sampling the first couple links I was thinking, “Hmm, these are pretty good!” But then as I kept sampling, I made it to others (the ones who ended up rating higher) that were much better. Point is, if I hadn’t had anything to compare those first ones to, I would’ve thought they were darn good. When you taste them all one after another, and are able to compare, you really get a true idea of the small differences that separate the good from the great.
I plan on making this an annual thing. Next year I’m gonna hit up the stops along I-10, also.

My wife is from Opelousas. Just to prove how everyone has different tastes, she will only eat boudin from Rays. Personally it does nothing for me.

Hell yeah, glad we have a legit boudin option actually in Lafayette. Obviously, a different location than you tried but the same family.

Good post. I'll have to give Bourque’s another chance. Tried it once many years ago and thought it was just okay.
T-Boys gets a lot of love, but I also gave it low marks when I tried it. And I really wanted to like it after reading about the business.

Johnson’s and Earl’s are in Lafayette, though Earl’s is the only one that opens early enough to grab a link or several while on the way to the office in the mornings. Johnson’s, like Bourque’s, takes its good ole time.

This is a great thread. Wife's family is from port barre on moms side and plaucheville on dads side. Been eating these places for years. You just made me want to do a little trip with my boys.
The beauty of boudin....everyone has their personal favorite. Think about it, its a really cool thing.

*Janise’s (Sunset)
I gave them a second try this weekend. I ate a link hot and bought 2 cold links to grill later. I can say that I am still not a fan. It seems to have a strong green onion taste that I do not like.

Great thread OP!
How is the boudin at Champagnes Marche in Leonville? Looks like an awesome grocery store
