The food that is incredibly superior out of a garden compared to store purchased

The consensus will probably be tomatoes, but green beans right off the vine have an exquisite smell and taste which can't be found in store bought.
Others?

Baby Lima’s. Never has store bought replicated my two Grandmas growing them, shucking them and cooking them right off the vine with little pieces of bacon in the juice.

Well as you said tomatoes at least for me.
But fresh shelled butter beans are at the top for me as well as fresh corn as it turns starchy immediately after picking.
As I’ve said before my grandmother would have a complete dinner almost ready to serve and she would tell my grandfather “10 minutes” He would put his hat on, grab a big knife off the side screen porch and walk to his corn patch (always a separate garden from the other vegetables) and cut however many ears of corn needed and shuck walking back to the house. Drop them in a big pot of salted simmering water she always kept in the back of the stove and by the time she set the rest of the food on the table they were done.
Butter, salt and pepper and that is my absolute favorite (even beyond a tomato) fresh vegetable.

Aside from tomatoes, fresh picked corn on the cob, hands down. Tomatoes and corn make summer sort of tolerable while in season. I ate corn and tomatoes every single night for weeks this year.

Brussels sprouts grown in your own garden are fantastic.

I made a gallon of orange juice from satsumas out of my parents yard a couple weeks ago. Damn that was some good stuff.

I can't drink store bought orange juice ever since having a tree in my backyard.
Crazy how big of a difference there is.

Asparagus is like candy when you pick it out of your garden.

Fresh basil on those tomatoes was consumed all summer, too, and homemade pesto was made.

Purple hull peas and baby green limas come to mind, as do English peas. But it is hard to beat freshly picked sweet corn.

Cucumbers are right up there on my list along with tomatoes and beans.

Sweet corn, snap beans, and the biggest surprise to me was brocolli. I grew it for the first time last year and homegrown broccoli is on whole other level than store bought

I grow a pretty big back yard garden year round and almost everything I pull from it is superior to store bought.
My cucumbers are some of the best I've ever eaten and that sentiment also comes form those I give them to.
Of course tomatoes right off the vine are far superior. My broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, Brussel sprouts, beets, leaf lettuces, kale, Swiss Chard, garlic, onions are much fresher, better texture and fuller flavors.
Especially the broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower as they get huge before picking and then I get side shoots off the Broccoli that go on for several weeks after the main head is cut.
In the summer I grow a lot of okra, often 60-75 plants and I see it in the stores priced at $3.99 a lb. and it looks like crap all wilted and with black spots like it's going bad. For a local crop that you would have to try hard to kill by neglect, I don't understand the pricing.

Definitely. The first time we grew it we were really pleasantly surprised.
