'I could use less expensive ingredients or promote my products to make more money,' added Tran. 'But no—my goal is always to try to make a rich man's hot sauce at a poor man's price.'

And he started out life poor, and in a Chinese family living in Viet Nam. After serving in the army as a cook for five years, he went to work for his brother. He notices the wild swings in prices of chili peppers and created a sauce to take advantage of those swings.

He went to Hong Kong (Nam encouraged ethnic Chinese to leave) and from Hong Kong to the USA with 20K in gold hidden in a milk can.

And then he went to work here making Sriracha.

Speaking of that. I bought a bottle recently that looks like the original with the chicken on the front and all the symbols/letters but when I took a closer look it’s an ox and it’s called Ox Brand Sriracha. Anybody ever had this?

Tabasco Sriracha is better than the Huy Fong (Rooster) brand imo.

Rooster brand switched from their original pepper grower years back and was never the same. The first version was the best by far.

Always out here, when it's in stock i buy multiple bottles and horde it. Freaking lame supply problems still persist.

Have to mix it with ketchup for fries, rings, or roasted taters.

I was born and raised in New Orleans and I still love and use South Louisiana hot sauces. That being said, Sriracha is my favorite hot sauce.

csb: When I lived in Los Angeles I used to drive by his factory in Irwindale from time to time. You can't help but admire this guy's story

Love his story and product. Still primarily buy the original Sriracha, but Trader Joe's knockoff is better.
