Kona Grill confoundingly continues to draw a crowd wanting to dine in Perkins Rowe.

They got rid of the happy hour so there isn't 1 reason to go there anymore

They're trying to go upscale now

Would make no impact on me. Probably some entitled "writer" didn't get kissed up to enough.

What people say here is relevant to me.

Must have been pretty awful for the advocate not to give it a glowing review.

I agree.

I would go on occasion based solely on the quality of the happy hour and the location on the square, but now there’s really no reason to go there over anywhere else. The food certainly doesn’t justify it.

Loved their happy hour, didn’t know they got rid of it. Probably wouldn’t go again now. The satay and drinks with a few of the sushi rolls were great sitting on the patio for happy hour.

I remember liking the place, but it's legitimately been maybe 7 or so years since I've been there.

With all the great local places in the city to highlight, they focus on a chain in Perkins Rowe. Just awful.

Edit: Read the entire review. Poorly written and agree with what another poster said, it felt the "author" had a vendetta against the place.

Oh well, not like anyone gives a shite about The Advocate for food reviews.

Advocate food reviews basically always tell you NOTHING.

When did Kona get rid of the Happy Hour?

I used to go to Kona pretty frequently with my then girlfriend about 4-5 years ago, and we could each have two margaritas ($3 dollars), mediocre sushi, etc., for under $30.00, and sit on a patio. Food was fine, especially for the price.

I went recently, and the "Happy Hour" prices were significantly higher. I don't hate the food (especially at the previous Happy Hour prices), but it is not worth Kona's regular prices. For $50-70, you can do better.

Further, that location just feels dirty. Tables are sticky, wait staff has been pretty terrible.

Went about a month ago. Bartender said they had just gotten rid of it

He didn't seem too happy considering there were 3 people in there instead of 30

Kona Grill enjoyed the spot light on one night, when Ryan Perrilloux showed up with hookers and blow and got kicked off the football team. Since then Kona Grill and Perrilloux have both remained in complete obscurity.

So why is the Advocate reviewing Kona Grill now?

They said they were losing money on HH because it was such a good deal, but I don't know ..

Trying to re-brand with upscale vibe when chain restaurants are already trending down seems like a very bad idea.

Well, they do have 52 reviews a year to do. Eventually you run out of great local places to review. Or even bad local places.
