Have reservations there later this month.

On average, for two people, how much is the bill?

Is there a parking lot? I know it’s on Bourbon so not sure where the best place to park is.

Best apps? Best entree?

Any additional info is appreciated.

The prices are on the menu. It's on Bourbon so I think that answers your parking lot question.

I'll leave it to someone else for food selections

Well if you have reservations (meaning upstairs) you’re doing it wrong. It’s best to be downstairs in the main dining room. Food isn’t the best in the city, but it’s good IMO. Still one of my favorite dining experiences.

Best to get Uber or a cab to the FQ. There is a parking deck a block behind it on Dauphine that used to be my go to. I like it a lot less now that you have to park yourself and pay via app. The deck can be kind of creepy/lonely. Plus, if you have a proper experience you may not be able to drive.

It’s fun. There’s a secret parking garage but I can’t share that with you.

Everything is good. Nothing is stellar. You are going for the experience and wait staff. You will feel important.

I disagree that sitting upstairs is sub-par. Easy access to drinks. But the loud white/black floors downstairs are the true experience.

You want to sit downstairs. Asking for a menu at Galatoire’s is seen as gauche by regulars. Ask your waiter what seafood is the best and order that. Soufflé potatoes, shrimp remolaude and oysters en brochette are mainstays. I have dined at Galatoire’s more than any other restaurant going back 40 years. I have had sublime meals and average ones. The drinks are very strong.

Their Oysters Rockefeller were legit.

Don't really remember what I ordered as an entree because the only time I've eaten there was after the Saints whipped the Rams arse in the 2018 regular season.

The wife and I were drunk celebrating.

Dining downstairs is the whole experience. Dining there should be the whole experience. I always say it’s like going to a party that’s been going on for 100 years unless you hit a slow time for some reason.

I love the restaurant and the food. It’s old New Orleans fare for the most part, but damn good old New Orleans fare.

My favorites include soufflé potatoes, fried eggplant, shrimp remoulade and I must have the oysters rock every single time. The fresh fish amandine or meunière are always good choices. However, lately I’ve gone for the crabmeat au gratin. I miss the Bon Ton version and it’s one of my favorite dishes. Caramel custard for dessert or banana bread pudding.
Enjoy!

I love Galatoire;s. It is my favorite restaurant in town.

First of all, if you have reservations, that means that they are going to seat you upstairs, and that is not where you want to be. Ask for downstairs, even if you have to wait.

We usually park in the garage on Iberville and Dauphine behind the Ritz Carlton, but they don't validate.

My usual meal there is a souffle potatoes to go with cocktails or the first bottle of wine, then seafood goutte as an appetizer. This is shrimp remoulade, crabmeat ravigotte (they call it maison) and one other seafood dish, depending on the season. For dinner I hope they have a nice piece of pompano which I get grilled with meuniere sauce. My wife gets trout amandine. Bread pudding or sweet potato cheesecake for dessert.

The quintessential New Orleans meal.

I've had a reservation and been seated in the downstairs dining room, but that was several years ago. And whoever said the drinks are strong wasn't lying.

There is one law in the City of New Orleans you cannot break. You can't park in front of Galatoire's.

1.) If you have to ask, you can't afford it. If done correctly, you will be drunk enough at the end of the meal that you won't care what the total is when signing the bill.

2.) I have dined at incredible street stalls, several #1 ranked restaurants in the world, and 3-star Michelin restaurants in almost 30 countries around the world. Friday lunch at Galatoire's with friends/family is beyond comparison.

3.) A menu should never see your table. Trust your waiter...ask him what looks good and what are his favorites.

4.) Drinks are very strong...plan accordingly.

You will always have a good time there, whether or not the food is good, mediocre, or bad.

Their are two ways to dine at Galatoires I think.

One is with a big group and make a day of it. The other is, as you indicated, to dine a Deux. When doing a lunch for two, downstairs, you will sort of get swallowed by the crowd but that can be a good thing. If going for dinner I’ve always loved to have a cocktail or two, the apps, and then order the fried chicken and a really nice bottle of champagne. Their fried chicken is fantastic. But moreso, there is something very fun about eating fried chicken with your hands at a white tablecloth place.

You can spend of course as much or as little as you want. The entree pricing at Galatoire’s always seems to be on the low side compared to other spots in town. Of course everything is a La carte at Galatoire’s.

Personally I love the place. Great lamb chops, steaks, and the cold seafood appetizers are always well done.

If you go an don’t like it, no sweat. If you go and do, you have a new favorite.
