quote:

Deep in the heart of southern Louisiana, surrounded by marshlands, ancient salt deposits, and the rich cultural traditions of Acadiana, a simple combination of peppers, salt, and vinegar gave rise to one of the most recognizable food products in the world. Tabasco sauce, first commercially produced in 1868, became far more than a condiment. It grew into a symbol of Louisiana's culinary identity, an enduring family enterprise, and an internationally recognized brand whose distinctive flavor has crossed cultural and geographical boundaries for more than a century and a half.

It was available at many restaurants and grocery stores I visited in Osaka, Japan. The Japanese often aren't big on spicy food, so that says something.

The deal to have the small bottles added to MREs was insanely smart.

Can’t tell you how insanely happy finding one of those bottles in your MRE made you feel!

It’s funny how Tabasco ‘conquered the word’ and yet in Louisiana it’s the third or fourth choice for hot sauce formost residents

For me, it would be my 1st choice if the prices were equal.

Same. I use crystal on some items, but mostly tabasco on everything else. I'm putting tabasco on pizza/eggs/pasta/gumbo/most protein dishes etc while my crystal goes on fried chicken/jambalaya/etoufee/red beans/smothered proteins

Too many hot sauces have a gummy or too-thick consistency which I don't like. Cholula/Tapatio etc all have gross extra ingredients that aren't needed and it creates that gummy/thick texture

I also think heavy vinegar is the best for cutting through rich dishes especially those that have butter in them. Love some tabasco dashed on buttered toast.

Tabasco has become my main sauce. I like the vinegaryness of it. Some of the other sauces are too salty, but Tabasco has just a little. Also like that it doesn't have chemically junk in it.

The chipotle one is very good too.

Tabasco's vinegar is what makes it best for Red Beans.

A little acid helps gumbo, too.

I agree. It's my favorite in that too, but I was focused on red beans because I started craving them.

In the early to mid-1970s, when I was young, there was a restaurant somewhere out there that had a table placemat with factoids. One of them was that Tobasco was popular with Japanese, who were known to put it on spaghetti so much that many thought Tobasco to be made in Italy.

There are a number of Tabasco products I like.

But I rather Paul Prudhomme’s magic pepper sauce.

Beautiful place and if anyone hadn’t been on the Tabasco tour it’s well worth it. Spring with azaleas blooming is fantastic

Agree. If they have the Tabasco Ice Cream, worth the try.

The Avery family that live on the island, I went to visit one time. The son asked if I wanted to ride in his new Airboat. I said yep. He unhooks the boat from the trailer. He backs up real fast, hits the brakes, the boat drops out the back of the trailer. Hits the ground, put on ear protection. He fires it up, hits a small clump of small trees and we hit the swamp around the island. He was born and raised on the island.

His older brother got married on the island, after the wedding, food, drinks and dancing was going on. Right after the wedding ceremony, the cake was brought out, took 4 guys. At that time they shot fireworks over the marsh. Minutes later, we spotted the marsh burning, a crew was sent out to extinguish the fire.

Oh the young man now built these things.
