I put a frozen steak in a sink of water yesterday afternoon to defrost and forgot about it overnight. Water was still surprisingly cold seen I took it out this morning. WYEI?

Would I eat it? If it was cold, yes.

Would I recommend you eat it? No. If you cannot guarantee the safety, the answer is no. When in doubt, throw it out.

You’re GTG brother - we’ve eaten more questionable “left out overnight” food items and haven’t died.

I do it all the time, if you eat out you have definitely eaten worse.

You're planning on cooking it, right?

I'd go for it unless your plan was steak tartare.

I eat roadkill that's been out all night. I wouldn't hesitate to eat that steak. Yolo.

People eat raw steak that’s been sitting out for hours so you won’t die, if that’s what you’re asking

Dry aged beef sits on a shelf for weeks. You're good.

I'd probably go with stroganoff or something with it rather than grilling it rare.

Trust your nose. Your nose knows.

I wanted to make fried rice yesterday with some leftover rice that had been in my fridge for a little while. Really wanted to make it. Even bought eggs to use to make it. I’ve got frozen peas and carrots specifically for that purpose. But my nose told me, nope, this rice isn’t safe. I have no problem leaving a covered pot of food or pizza in a box sitting out for 24 hrs.

But I trust my nose. Your nose knows. Trust your nose.

Edit: I don’t let seafood sit out. Don’t let seafood sit out.

As long as you don’t go swimming for at least thirty minutes after you eat it, you should be fine.
